January 30, 2020

Superbugs. Pandemics. Nuclear threats. The world is proud and panicked at the same time. . . a sense of impregnability and precariousness in tandem. The world sits in a far more precarious situation than ever before. Contributing factors include the centralization of population and the internationalization of the world, as well as the worldwide unleashing of evil and the institutionalization of the grossest sins. But, how do Christians respond to pandemics?

Satan roams about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Does God really mean these warnings we find in Hebrews, Jude, and 2 Peter? Is this a high-stakes war we wage? What happens to a church that is not watchful and prayerful? Kevin Swanson interviews Pastor Brian Hedges, author of "Watchfulness -- Recovering a Lost Spiritual Discipline."

Scientists paid Mexican women for artificially insemination, and then they killed their babies. President Trump signs a bill to put a kid in prison for 7 years for drowning a lizard. And, now scientists tell us that all those babies aborted over the last fifty years that weren’t supposed to have felt pain. . . felt pain. What is the root issue? The fundamental problem is that public school kids, private school kids, and homeschool kids are not taught science in the fear of God. The consequences are tragic.

The worldwide birth dearth has accelerated in just the last ten years, and demographers are puzzled. Why the big dip, despite the non-recessionary, economic boom time? South Korea, Japan, China, Europe, and the United States are facing massive birth implosions, but America’s drop was larger than South Korea, China and Japan’s over the last ten years. But, what does the Bible say about birth control? We provide a list of critical verses that tie in.

A Christian school expelled a student because she was living a lifestyle that did not adhere to Christian beliefs and because of a promotion of homosexuality. They have received a lot of criticism for their efforts to obey God and keep His law. More and more, Christian organizations in the western world are having to decide whether they will choose to serve God or men.

In a recent survey, Americans register the most concerning element of the family is the failure of parental discipline and teaching. The problem is found in the generally-accepted post-modern worldview, the common zeitgeist of relativism. Relativist parents make for bad, inconsistent, flip-flopping parenting. Where does authority come from, and what defines right and wrong? Basic theological commitments matter. We also discuss the relationship of Gospel and Law in parenting.

With the rash of movies recently produced on the Fox News scandals, this from the best-of Generations programs speaks to the root problems. Nobody was very surprised when Fox News Channel's previous administration folded under the weight of multiple sexual harassment scandals. The sexual objectification and soft porn that characterized the Fox News website gave us a sense of the management of the organization. We take a look at what the Bible says about sexual innuendo, sexual harassment, and the slight differences between the hypocrisy of Fox News and the hypocrisy of CNN. Comparing hypocrisies on this edition of the program, including that of the Church of Scotland.

Guest host Adam McManus chats with Becket Cook, a former homosexual, about his life story encapsulated in his book entitled “A Change of Affection: A Gay Man’s Incredible Story of Redemption.” Brett McCracken, of the Gospel Coalition, wrote, “Ten years ago, Becket Cook was a [homosexual] man in Hollywood who had achieved great success as a set designer in the fashion industry. He worked with stars and supermodels, from Natalie Portman to Claudia Schiffer, traveling the world to design photo shoots for the likes of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. He attended award shows and parties at the homes of Paris Hilton and Prince. He spent summers swimming in Drew Barrymore’s pool. A decade later, Cook has moved on from that life—and he doesn’t miss it. “What changed for Cook? He met Jesus. On a momentous day in September 2009, while drinking coffee with a friend at Intelligentsia in L.A.’s Silver Lake neighborhood. Cook started chatting with a group of young people sitting at a nearby table—physical Bibles opened in front of them. They were from a church called Reality L.A.” Listen to the incredible testimony of how God saved Becket’s soul and empowered him to walk away from homosexuality. Plus, learn about whether there is such a thing as a “homosexual Christian”, why homosexuals really march in “pride” parades, and how you can reach out to the homosexuals in your life with the love and truth of Jesus Christ. A graduate of Talbot School of Theology, Becket speaks around the country on the importance of churches and Christians addressing this inescapable cultural issue from a Biblical perspective. You can book him at becket@becketcook.com.

Guest host Adam McManus chats with Brad Dacus, President of the Pacific Justice Institute, a non-profit Christian legal defense organization, about three recent religious liberty cases. Pastor Afshin Yaghtin, who objected to a Drag Queen Story Hour which took place in a Spokane, Washington public library, was arrested for merely walking into the venue with his Bible. When the police officer saw his Bible and asked the pastor whether he agreed or disagreed with the drag queens, Pastor Yaghtin explained that he disagreed with them. At that point, he was put in the back of a police car for three HOURS, brought to the jail and booked on creating a disturbance. Secondly, Dacus will discuss the case of a teenage girl who selected the Christmas hymn “Joy to the World” to play on the piano at a charter school-sponsored Christmas recital at a nursing home. The school prohibited her from doing so, claiming that it would imply their endorsement of a Christian message. And thirdly, Dacus will cite the case of a public school telling a piano teacher, whose piano manual included “Amazing Grace” and “When the Saints Come Marching In”, that she would have to either cover up those two hymns or rip the pages out altogether. Finally, Brad Dacus expresses his support for President Trump’s January 16th announcement through the Department of Education in which he affirmed the right of students to pray. President Trump said, “Our Founders understood that no right is more fundamental to a peaceful, prosperous, and virtuous society than the right to follow one’s religious convictions.” And he expressed his delight that President Trump has appointed 187 consitutionalists in the judicial system -- including Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. This program includes: 1. The World View in Five Minutes with Adam McManus (Trump: Students, teachers have right to pray at school, VA gun rights feud, Mexico blocks 2,000 Guatemalan migrants) 2. Generations with Kevin Swanson (Interview Hosted by Adam McManus)

Guest host Adam McManus talks with Kevin Swanson and Pastor Norris Bain of Tabernacle Baptist Church in the Bahamas about the week-long effort that the Generations team of 12 volunteers are a part of as they replace dry wall and patch the roofs of Freeport Gospel Chapel and Tabernacle Baptist. Pastor Bain said, “Like 9/11 changed the United States forever, Hurricane Dorian changed the Bahamas forever.” Their church, located 15 miles inland from the Atlantic coast, was soaked by 5 feet of water, requiring that they gut everything, replace all the electrical outlets, drywall, furniture, and computers. The damage will cost $250,000. Plus, the hurricane dropped five 40-foot-long boats in their neighborhood. Thanks to the funding of 150,000 pounds of dry wall and roofing materials from Generations listeners and the volunteer labor of Kevin’s team, the Bahamian church is receiving desperately needed help. Pastor Bain said, “A thousand tongues could not say thank you enough to Generations for what they are doing here on the island of Grand Bahama. There is not enough paper for us to write ‘thank you’ to this ministry for what they have done and how they are impacting our church. It’s just unbelievable! We are forever grateful.” Kevin said, “Everyone on our team would say this is one of the best experiences of our lives. If you are looking for a nation in crisis, if you’re looking for a church that needs help, this would be one of the best opportunities in a lifetime!” If you can find a roofing expert or general contractor and a dry wall expert, and want to put a team of 6-12 people together from your church or family who will work 8 hours a day for a week or so, email host@generations.org. The local church will provide the transportation, housing, and meals during your stay. The cost of a plane ticket from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to the Bahamas, 60 miles off shore, is $250. Come during the months of January, February and March before the temperatures become prohibitively hot. Plus, if you can’t take time to volunteer to rebuild Bahamian churches, then help us raise $100,000 by February 28th to pay for tax-free building supplies at wholesale cost on-line at www.generations.org/give. Select “Support International Outreach Ministry” in the drop-down window.

Guest host Adam McManus chats with Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, the host of Revive Our Hearts heard on 700 Christian radio stations and the author of 24 books with 4 million copies in print, including Lies Women Believe and the Truth That Sets Them Free, Seeking Him, and Adorned: Living Out the Beauty of the Gospel Together. She shares the keys to personal revival. They include meditative time in the Word of God, reading Christian biographies, choosing forgiveness and gratitude, and a willingness to be a mentor to the younger and a student who listens to the wiser. If more Christians would implement those disciplines, we would see revival catch fire in our families, cities, and the nation.
