Public Acceptance of Porn Rockets - America’s Steepest Moral Decline

June 14, 2018

No area of moral decline is sharper right now than the area of drug use. It is the most commonly used drug by Christians and non-Christians alike. In fact, there is not statistically significant difference between the incidence of porn use among Christians and non-Christians. None. We still believe in Jesus, and encourage others to believe in Him. If the Son will set you free, this Son will make you free indeed. Indeed.

In the latest popular animated movie from Disney, Mrs. Incredible gets her career while Mr. Incredible stays at home and plays Mr. Mom. Hollywood is spinning itself into irrelevance, but will it take the kids with it in the process? We review the Harvey Weinstein maelstrom and the fallen stars in his wake — at least 200 of them so far. Dustin Hoffman, Roman Polanski, Kevin Spacey, Oliver Stone. Behold how the mighty have fallen again! Proverbs 5:22 repeats itself again.

There is a positive side to the massive immigrations going on right now, as the mission field comes to our front doors. How do we engage the conversation with our Muslim neighbors? Dr. James White presents a scholarly analysis of the Koran and the Muslim faith, walking through a methodology for witnessing to Muslims.

Franklin Graham wants us to return to biblical values in politics. He is encouraging involvement in politics. Is this reconstruction? Is it possible to get too utopian about imposing Christian government over a society? Is it dangerous to apply God’s law in politics? We discuss the Christian agenda in politics, and some of the pitfalls surrounding Christian activism.

Winners this season for the ABC Program, Dancing with the Stars were. . . Christians! But, Focus on the Family review calls the program “sexually-charged” in “all the clothes-shedding, leg-grabbing, floor-crawling maneuvers.” So which is it? Christian? Or Non-Christian? We take a look at the argument, “If somebody calls it art, it has to be good.” Who gets to call it art?

The Catholics and Evangelicals join forces in St. Louis for a conference on “Gay Christians.” The conference includes plentiful professors from Covenant Theological Seminary and Gordon Conwell Seminary. The conference provides insight into the brokenness of modern evangelicalism, and the powerlessness of a weakening faith. Then, we review Andy Stanley’s comments on unhitching Christianity from the Old Testament, I mean, the Mosaic Law. What would Jesus say about all of this?

The verdict is in. The U.S. Supreme Court decided not to decide the Denver Baker case. Instead, the court remonstrated the Colorado Civil Rights Commission for being insensitive, disrespectful, rude, and even “hostile” in their disagreement with Jack Phillips’ ethics relating to homosexuality. Even the Supremes were shocked by the animus against Christians represented by the State of Colorado. Why the animus?

The Methodists are accepting 111 homosexual clergy on last count. We take up this common statement, “I have a gay friend.” Why would you advertise your friend’s sins? Or do people wear this sin as a badge? Should we identify people with a particular sin in this way? Kevin Swanson examines this mindset, and then points out that Jesus did not party with sinners and give them high fives in their sins. He called them to repentance.

We were surprised to find that the New York Times was concerned about the “moral rot” of the nation. Were they concerned with parents killing their children and the proliferation of sexual sin? Not really. The liberals call Donald Trump immoral for things like rudeness and his apparent advocacy of torture. Shall the Republicans define morality or the liberals define morality? Or shall we define morality by God’s laws? We take a look at the debate on the use of torture by governments which do not submit themselves to the sovereignty of God.

The social and political instability intensifies. Institutions crumble under the weight of the social revolution and the moral chaos of the day. Here is a little commentary on the collapse of the last empire, and a tribute to Tom Wolfe, the best writer of epitaphs for empires anybody ever saw. Age old institutions are cracking right now across the country. No political and religious leader is safe in a revolutionary age. The Me-Toos and the Snowflakes will work their vengeance, without taking a whole lot of interest in God’s law. Nonetheless, Al Mohler makes a good point - this judgment is God’s judgment and it must begin at the household of God. We take a quick look at the removal of Paige Patterson (stripped of “benefits, rights, and privileges”) from his position as President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Was Satanic music influential upon the 17-year-old suspect in the Texas high school killings? Kevin Swanson identifies his musical influence (the Purturbator) as featured on the Church of Satan.com. Parents forget that music bears a strong influence on their kids. The music that young people listen to will shape them over time. Even instrumental music conveys a worldview, but what is that worldview? Interesting discussion concerning music on this edition of Generations.
