Will you give me a drink?

Hear

When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water” (John 4:7-10).

Believe

The conversation started with a simple question.

Will you give me a drink?

It ended with a great many people believing that Jesus was and is the Savior of the world.

What happened?

Jesus met a woman who had a dry, thirsty soul. That’s what happened.

She had been trying to quench her thirst through her many relationships, but to no avail. Jesus knew all about her lifelong quest to find happiness. She was astonished when he told her about her marriage history, and that the man she was living with was not her husband. She said to Jesus, “I perceive that you must be a prophet.”

He was and is so much more. He is the Messiah, the one who can save us from sin and death, and give us eternal life.

To this Samaritan woman, he offered the one thing that could truly satisfy and refresh her soul — living water, water that wells up to eternal life. Water that once you drink you will never be thirsty again. Water that you want to share with others.

And she did. Because she shared her testimony, many came to hear the same life-giving words of Christ. And they found the source of living water for themselves.

Live

Is your soul thirsty? Have you looked for something to fill the emptiness in your heart? If so, ask Jesus and he will give you a drink that truly satisfies your soul.

And then share the news with others so they, too, can thirst no more.

In Him,
