Who Trains Your Dragon, or Your Children? - The Producers, Writers, Directors Matter

September 26, 2018

Does the worldview of those who produce and write Sesame Street and “How to Train Your Dragon” matter? One of the key writers of Sesame Street comes out of the closet and indicates that his experiences have informed his depiction of Ernie and Bert. We’re not as concerned about who trains your dragon, as who trains your children. Who are these producers, writers, and directors? Do their worldviews and their sexual proclivities really matter? We also take a look at the social view. Where are Big Bird’s parents? Is the village raising the children, or is the family still important?

How do you salvage a society from descending into a police state? Only Christians will be able to stand in the gap against the rising police state. Here is how it can be done!

The 2018 Emmy Award ceremonies recognized Jesus, but they apparently did not want to honor Him. Why are the most popular shows the ones that feature the most sexual violence. Where are the Me Too people when you need them? We discuss the biblical view of portraying sin and violence on this edition.

One accusation (without corroboration) against Bret Kavanaugh, President Trump’s appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court, threatens to derail the whole thing. As mob justice in the court of public opinion sways to one direction or the other, it is for Christians to avoid this. What would God’s law say about these accusations brought against Mr. Kavanaugh? Also, would Christians attend these drunken parties, as admitted to by the accuser? Drunken parties become a seedbed for a whole lot of sin, and young people subject themselves to this sort of thing.

Should your children go into acting, produce movies, and get involved in Hollywood? The industry is often clogged up in egos, pride, lust, and idolatry. We discuss the need for Christians in the arts with Dan Nuckols, film producer and artist. He introduces the film, “Oh Aching Soul” on this edition of Generations.

Some of the younger generation are staying evangelical, but they are moving liberal. Surveys find they don’t want to reverse Roe v. Wade, they like homosexual marriage and free health care. However, they aren’t much different from their parent’s generation. They are rejecting conservative values, but then conservatives never went for God’s law much to begin with.

81% of the family comedies (intended for your little children) are sexualizing the children in the shows. When it is the most perverted and depraved minds dominating television production, the family programs will degrade into the Lowest Common Denominator. And. . . young pre-teens and teens are watching television programs at a higher rate than ever before - 4-5 hours per day! This is your children’s peer group at the Christian schools and the youth groups. What should Christian parents do to protect their children from the media and from the peer groups that are soaked in modern media?

Why are kids leaving the churches in droves? Pew Research digs into the reasons, and finds it is the evolutionary thinking, philosophical skepticism, and the vacuity of modern church theology. The teaching is just too insipid. How do you equip your young teens to face the world of skepticism? We discuss both evidentialism and presuppositional apologetics on this edition of Generations.

Is the most popular horror movie series in the world Christian or demonic? Christian news outlets are torn on the issue, and it is an critical question with many implications. A priest blessed the movie set of “The Nun” so there can’t be any demonic element to this horror flick. The argument bases the existence of good upon the existence of evil, and the existence of God upon the existence of the devil. But what is more fundamental — the fear of evil or the fear of God? What is the director/writer establishing in the story itself — the sovereignty of evil or the sovereignty of God? Are “Christians” capitulating to a manipulation of the devil in the Conjuring series? This is dangerous stuff. When severely compromised Christians who do not have a strong Christian worldview get involved in art, culture, and politic, they give way to the wrong worldview. . . and terrible things happen.

Here is the thrilling story of how God miraculously protected a young Christian man in Egypt through torture and crucifixion. Majed El Shafie tells the story of how he escaped Egypt on a jet ski after suffering persecution for his faith at the hands of the Egyptian police. His organization One Free World International recently rescued hundreds of girls (as young as nine years old) held as sex slaves by ISIS. It is the story of faith and courage in the face of sheer evil and fearful circumstances. It is a story that American Christians need to hear as they face their own persecutions.

Over the last ten years, the number of states that have banned spanking have more than tripled.  Some 60 nations have banned this biblical form of child discipline.  But why?  The psychologists have performed the studies, but the desired outputs in the studies do not correspond with a biblical definition of a good.  Biblical character definitions are far different than that definition used by humanists and permissive nanny statists. We will watch the character of nations unravel, but how do Christians proceed?  Should Christians stay out of nations that ban parenting and discipline?
