The Super Bowl Exploiting Women - Do Christians Have Any Fun?

February 6, 2020

Why in the world must the Super Bowl exploit women? And what in the world does the bathing suit edition have to do with Sports Illustrated? The Super Bowl remains the biggest national cultural event of the year — 103,000,000 people watched it. We note the impossible contradiction of “feminists in bikinis.” Sex appeal and sexual domination don’t both work in the Super Bowl half time show. Professional sports in America doesn’t do Christian men much good, especially when there is real life to live and real battles to wage. But, how do Christians have fun? What is the sort of rejoicing that Christians find most rewarding? Always coram deo.

So this is what it looks like when an ugly little philosopher named Jean Paul Sartre dominates the culture and permeates the thinking of the masses? Hardly anybody has escaped the influence of existentialism in thinking, language, lifestyle, and relationships. Isolation is everywhere. Suicides are way up. Drug use is orders of magnitude beyond what it used to be. Anorexia, body image problems, insecurity, snowflake-ism prevail. . . Never has man been so consumed with self, and never so distressed about it. However, praise be to God, the truth shall make you free! This interview may not make you feel awesome about yourself, but maybe it will make you consider God awesome, and the rest will fall into place. Author Rachel Jankovic brings heavy theological ideas down to where the rubber hits the road — daily life. Who are you and how in the world can you be content washing dishes and changing diapers all day long?

Why are the Catholics so much stronger than the evangelicals, the PCA, the EPC, the Assemblies of God, Calvin College, Moody, Colorado Christian University, and the National Evangelical Association when it comes to religious liberty and shameful sexual practices? These are the most perilous times of all, especially in the Western nations — if you are thinking in spiritual terms. These are exceedingly dangerous times with four major contributing factors working. We provide a spiritual modus operandi, strategically laid out in the later-dated Epistles. But, the real question. . . why have Christian churches abandoned the assembling together, especially when it comes to the evening service and the prayer meetings? That’s practically suicidal, now!

The 2020 Grammys came and went, but nobody really noticed. Kevin Swanson contrasts Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston with Billy Eillish, and it’s not just the green hair. 1 John 2:17 repeats itself again and again, especially marked over the last five years. A brief movie review on “Just Mercy” follows.

Superbugs. Pandemics. Nuclear threats. The world is proud and panicked at the same time. . . a sense of impregnability and precariousness in tandem. The world sits in a far more precarious situation than ever before. Contributing factors include the centralization of population and the internationalization of the world, as well as the worldwide unleashing of evil and the institutionalization of the grossest sins. But, how do Christians respond to pandemics?

Satan roams about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Does God really mean these warnings we find in Hebrews, Jude, and 2 Peter? Is this a high-stakes war we wage? What happens to a church that is not watchful and prayerful? Kevin Swanson interviews Pastor Brian Hedges, author of "Watchfulness -- Recovering a Lost Spiritual Discipline."

Scientists paid Mexican women for artificially insemination, and then they killed their babies. President Trump signs a bill to put a kid in prison for 7 years for drowning a lizard. And, now scientists tell us that all those babies aborted over the last fifty years that weren’t supposed to have felt pain. . . felt pain. What is the root issue? The fundamental problem is that public school kids, private school kids, and homeschool kids are not taught science in the fear of God. The consequences are tragic.

The worldwide birth dearth has accelerated in just the last ten years, and demographers are puzzled. Why the big dip, despite the non-recessionary, economic boom time? South Korea, Japan, China, Europe, and the United States are facing massive birth implosions, but America’s drop was larger than South Korea, China and Japan’s over the last ten years. But, what does the Bible say about birth control? We provide a list of critical verses that tie in.

A Christian school expelled a student because she was living a lifestyle that did not adhere to Christian beliefs and because of a promotion of homosexuality. They have received a lot of criticism for their efforts to obey God and keep His law. More and more, Christian organizations in the western world are having to decide whether they will choose to serve God or men.

In a recent survey, Americans register the most concerning element of the family is the failure of parental discipline and teaching. The problem is found in the generally-accepted post-modern worldview, the common zeitgeist of relativism. Relativist parents make for bad, inconsistent, flip-flopping parenting. Where does authority come from, and what defines right and wrong? Basic theological commitments matter. We also discuss the relationship of Gospel and Law in parenting.
