The Promise of Jonadab

September 1, 2010
Building a Family Legacy The foundations of the family in the 21st century have been utterly destroyed and utter social breakdown has been the consequence. As the Psalmist laments "if the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?" (Ps. 11:3). Thus it is the duty of Christian parents to rebuild the foundations of the family on the principles of God's Word and create a legacy such as the promise given to Jonadab by the Lord that "Jonadab the son of Rechab shall never lack a man to stand before me." (Jer. 35:19). Dave interviews E. Ray & Gail Moore on their new book discussing this promise and how Christian families can build a similar legacy in their families that will extend through eternity.

The Naivete of Christians With over 10 million copies now in print and over 110 consecutive weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, 'The Shack' is an unparalleled phenomena within American Christianity. Rumors of a movie have been swirling since publication and it seems inevitable that the book will be produced for the cinema. This will only widen the audience of the man-centered message so enthusiastically received by naive Christians. Christians who have no worldview grounding, no theological grounding, and no historical context for their faith are doomed to follow any dictator, cult leader, or weird Pied Piper coming down the pike. The naivete of Christians may be seen in the incredible reception of the 'The Shack.' The author is concerned to address certain 'religious conditioning,' yet Kevin Swanson is concerned with the 'worldview/religious conditioning' of people who write books that favor a man-centered ethic and telos, Marxist egalitarianism (in the abolition of authority in the economic Trinity), and post-modern rule-less relativism.

Flawed gods Modern man enjoys his flawed gods as much as the Romans did in the old empire days. Kevin Swanson compares the spiraling dissolution of modern entertainment with what happened during the old Roman days on this edition of Generations. But what about folks like Tim Tebow and the Duggar family (“19 Kids and Counting”)? How do they fit into this picture?

Relationships vs. Love Relationships for teens have broken down into 3,000 text messages a month. Shallow. Trite. Distant. Meaningless. But what is this word “relationship?” Kevin Swanson points out that this is not a biblical word. The Bible speaks of love. So many people who try to restore relationships in family and church fail because they don’t understand that love is conflict resolution. Love is forgiveness.

Throwing Money at the Problem To celebrate the great recession of the 2000s, Los Angeles builds the most expensive public high school on record! Then, Craig Brandon writes a book on college education in the 2000s, and calls it "The Five-Year Party School." Evidently, Tom Wolfe's 2004 novel "I am Charlotte Simmons" is not fiction. What props up the socialist schools is of course socialist big-government now spending 63.4% of the people's income. Cost of Government day is now August 19th. But would there be any socialist big-government if it weren't for socialist schools, which are running about $600 million now? The collapse of the public schools is inevitable - but what do sane people do about it now?

How to Raise a Daughter to be a Trustee The reason the family is falling apart with each successive generation is that we have inherited the wrong idea of the family. Andrea Schwartz from Chalcedon explains the difference between an atomistic family and a trustee family, encouraging us to restructure our thinking concerning the family. Given this idea of the family, would you raise your sons and daughters to be employees or trustees?

Angelina Jolie Can Fend for Herself In the which Kevin Swanson tries to get the door for Angelina Jolie, and discovers that chivalry is indeed dead in America. Surveys find Americans have lost the idea of chivalry. So we compare the Muslim treatment of women with the humanist/egalitarian treatment of women, at least if they were filling lifeboats on the Titanic. Worldviews do affect the way we live life and the way men will treat women in the years to come.

Why Homeschools Fail Homeschooling has doubled in size in ten years, with now an estimated 2.7 million homeschooled students in the nation. Although there are some clear positives about the movement, Kevin Swanson points out that this is no panacea for this nation's problems. It is possible to ruin your child in your homeschool, as well as in other forms of education. Based upon his 40+ years experience with home education and as a director of Christian Home Educators of Colorado for many years, Kevin Swanson provides important cautionary notes on home education for parents who dare to try it.

How to Break down the Church and the Nation Kevin Swanson reports on several different news stories, pointing out that liberators almost always turn out to be dictators and tyrants. Much of the world is under tyranny, only because they look to their liberators to save them. There is only one Messiah. Reject Him and you will be tyrannized! But what happens to churches led by homosexuals and women? They are shrinking. Abandon God's order for church leadership and family leadership, and you will see a breakdown of faith and family in a nation. The principles are the same for church and state.

Interview: Walter Hoye Pastor Walter Hoye was arrested in 2009 for holding up a sign in a public place that affirmed the right to life - "God loves your baby!" He was sentenced to a month in jail. But now he is campaigning for the most promising pro-life legislative strategy in the country - the Personhood Amendment. For the pastors who didn't have the courage to stand against slavery and racism in previous generations, perhaps they would stand against the de-personalization of the unborn child in the 21st century.

Going Up Against Goliath What happens when a nation is in the grip of a $600 billion program that monopolizes the worldview taught to the next generation? How does one extricate a nation from an anti-supernatural perspective – a worldview that insists on teaching the material – naturalist worldview in every subject? One small film crew made up of several families is traveling the nation in a yellow school bus, tracing the roots of this great education system that served wonderfully to solidify secular-humanism in the west. It is one very big film on a very small budget. Film Producer Colin Gunn joins us on Generations to share the vision.
