Raising Real Men

September 28, 2009
Interview: Hal and Melanie Young
So I'm supposed to take this 12 year old boy still chasing frogs, teasing his sister, falling out of trees, and wiping his nose with the back of his hand, and make him into a grown man who one day will be flying a 747 with 300 lives in his hands? It's hard to picture these boys turning into men, but it doesn't happen automatically. Hal and Melanie Young, parents of six red-blooded, bouncing off the ceiling, American boys provide some heart-warming advice for raising boys to be real men.

Interview: Lila Rose Planned Parenthood is the most powerful abortion provider and abortion lobby in the world. A billion dollar organization, about 1/3 of its income comes from our tax dollars. But one little homeschooled girl found five smooth stones down at the brook, and tossed one at the giant, just to see what would happen. Lila Rose is part of a team of young pro-lifers who have found a way to strip the facade off of the Planned Parenthood organization to show its true colors, and its support for eugenicist practices and other illegal perversions. In one of the most important battles of our day, these pro-lifers demonstrate dogged persistence, strong convictions, and true courage. Every now and then you find some kid who picks up a stone saying, "I wonder what would happen if I. . ."

Disillusioned with this Church Thing Vast numbers of Americans are disillusioned with the church thing. Anne Graham Lotz (Billy Graham's daughter) is pretty fed up with it, and has written a book questioning the viability of church for Christians. In the immortal words of the folk musician, Don Williams, "I don't believe that heaven waits, for only those who congregate. . ." These are pretty important questions in a world where family, faith, and community are fast disintegrating. Kevin Swanson gets down the basics in this program. What is a Christian? Does the church play into it at all? Whatever happened to Christian love and brotherhood in an indvidualized society where the faith was boiled down to an inner experience between me and Jesus?

Leaving the System Are we stuck in a socialist system, like Pooh in the hole? Must we raise our children in socialist schools, send them to socialist, government-funded colleges, take socialist social security, sign up for socialist medicine, and die euthanized like a socialist pig? The Amish provide an interesting, quaint example to the world of a people that refused to amalgamate into the statist system. While their jurisdictional balance fails to respect the family as well as ours does, there are some terrific lessons we can learn from these fine people. Kevin Swanson provides a snapshot of a people that refused Social Security in the 1950s and won. Here's a terrific program on how to leave the system without turning out the lights!

Fascism vs. Communism The good Senator Bauchus prefers a Fascist economic solution, while Obama continues to advocate a communist socialist solution to our health care system. We're thinking a biblical approach to economics and politics might be wiser than what Marx and friends advocate. Kevin Swanson speaks to the purpose of the Civil Magistrate biblically speaking, and then explains why men always gravitate towards slave-based systems (whether in local fief-doms or in large centralized tyrannies.)

Rebellion Lite It was the decade of Mickey Spillane novels, Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole, Leave it to Beaver, Executive Order 10450, Panty Raids in the colleges, girls in bikinis without the tattoo on the behind, and Dr. Spock. The 1950s set the groundwork for the destruction of family and culture that came in the 1960s and later. Kevin Swanson traces social trends from the 1680s into the present day, showing the 1950's as the bend in the curve towards Gomorrah. But what can we learn from those who preferred rebellion lite? Kevin Swanson draws important generational lessons from a decade that preferred their rebellion in small increments.

Salvaging Civilization The fellows from Generations have a good laugh at the sting operation conducted by a homeschooled girl from Florida that brought ACORN down. Young women from homeschools are making an impact everywhere. Yet all of this is still more duct tape on the Titanic. As we face the most serious generational apostasy we have seen in 2000 years, we’re not going to salvage the faith with a revamped Vacation Bible School program in the local church. We're not going to save the collapsing family in the west with a 20 minute family time on Friday night. And we're not going to save our Republic from a rapidly-growing socialism and the dissolution of family and freedoms with a hockey mom from Alaska who herself has a child with another child born out of wedlock. Kevin Swanson talks real solutions for salvaging some kind of society for future generations. You do not want to miss this episode of Generations!

The Reduction of Christianity Christian parents send their kids to public school because they draw distinctions between parenting (discipleship) and education. What possible harm can the schools do to their minds, since the Christian faith has nothing to say about stuff like science, history, economics, or even education for that matter! Once you separate the fear of God from knowledge, you don't have to worry about what kind of "education" you give your kids! It's easy. Just separate character from math, the fear of God from science, and you're there. This reveals a fundamental flaw with the modern "Christian" faith that presages the complete loss of the faith. Kevin Swanson explains this dualism with several examples on this edition of Generations.

Launching a Family Economy The most significant social change in history occurred over the last 150 years. Dad left home. A huge corporate system took most fathers out of the home and helped to produce the unraveling of the nuclear family in the western world. Kevin Swanson interviews Wade Myers from New Venture Lab on how to launch a family economic venture. Wade is one of the nation's foremost experts on entrepreneurship and managing venture capital, developing the best business models, properly managing risks, and analyzing markets.

Unveiling ACORN and Planned Parenthood When people are involved in really bad business like stealing money and killing kids, it's really not that hard to show them for what they really are. This is what happens when James O'Keefe, Hannah Giles, and Lila Rose set up ACORN and Planned Parenthood for some pretty embarrassing criminal activities. When tempted to do bad things, bad people usually go for it every time, assuming they feel like they can get away with it. Kevin Swanson weighs in on the issue, and suggests that electing godly leaders might be a better strategy in the long run, over trying to sway the fickle public opinion, and get the liberal media to cover what you're doing.
