It's Not About the Music

Reverence, A Lost Art?

Reverence is a strange word to an irreverent age. How do we teach our children to be reverent? In this discussion on music with best-selling author, Dan Lucarini, we divert from the topic of music to more important issues. Music is a controversial topic in the church. But the real issues that need to be discussed are not music styles, necessarily. After years of experience as a rock musician and worship leader, Dan Lucarini provides some thoughtful considerations on music and worship for the 21st century families and churches. Don't miss this important interview!

The Real and Present Risk of Losing Your ChildrenAnonymous tips. Mandatory reporting. Inexorably, the legal environment for families is moving towards the Orwellian state. Today, there is far more of a real and present risk of losing your children to social services than there was 40 years ago. Kevin Swanson interviews Don Hart from Heritage Defense on a new legal defense program for families. The need for legal protection has never been more urgent for families who want to raise their own children (and who would rather not have their children confiscated by government officials).

Will Technology Save us or Destroy us?As man's social and economic systems fail, he is more optimistic than ever that technology will save him! At least that's what the cover of this week's Time Magazine tells us! Humanists are optimistic. But should Christians be optimistic about the future of humanism and technology? Here Kevin Swanson discusses the dangers of technology and the Christian use of it, from the perspective of a biblical worldview.

Abandoning Doctrine and RelationshipsHow did Faith Baptist Church turn into Faith Community Church, and then turn into "The Breeze?" Are churches losing truth and relationships as they try to be "relevant" to a lost and lonely world? Kevin Swanson talks about inter-church connections, the value of truth, and the definition of "church" on this edition of Generations. He also explains why he's not big on "special programs" for twice-divorced children of alcoholics in his own church.

Modest Conversations with Your ChildrenAccording to the FRC 2011 Report on the Family, teen sexuality has virtually flat-lined over the last 20 years or so, but the incidence of homosexuality is growing in leaps and bounds. How do you raise a child in an over-sexed world that is slowly burning out on relationships and human sexuality? How do you talk to your children about marriage and issues of marital intimacy, and saving themselves for marriage? Kevin Swanson brings out the importance of "modest" conversations, but points to the Proverbs as the basic guideline.

A Depressed, Self-Oriented Generation RetiresA perfect storm approaches the shores of this country, and the first wave hits this year (2011 AD). The baby boom generation reaches retirement age, and by 2020 we will be in the heart of the storm. But the demographics are scary. These guys aborted 80 million babies from 1960 - 1990 (through abortifacients and abortion). They imploded their birthrates. Add to that a Bankrupt Social Security System, the character of the nation failing, a huge increase in clinical depression among the retirees, huge debt and little savings, and a cracking economy. . . It's a perfect storm. While the politicians will be rushing to plug the economic holes in the system, there are deeper issues at stake. Dr. Gregg Jantz shares some of the challenges baby boomers will face in the upcoming years. But what are the more fundamental issues? How have they defined "happiness?" And how are they seeking it in the wrong sort of way?

Same Effect as Pornography for our Sons? Some women consider romance novels to have a similar effect on them as pornography has on men. They say that it creates a discontentment with what God has given them, and a lusting after something "better." Are romance novels helpful? What about "Christian" romance novels? This introduces a discussion on the use of fiction as metaphor, and how and when and why fiction can be edifying for our children.

Is Obama Backing Off of His Marxism? President Obama is interviewed by Bill O'Reilly, and it seems he's backing off of the Marxist rhetoric.  But what is the truth of the matter?  Now that's hard to lock on to, with politicians.  Government continues to expand (as a percentage of the GNI), no matter the rhetoric.  But what about the Republican House?  Can they .  . . will they save us?

The Greatest Best Seller of All TimeNo other book has sold more copies in any language than the King James Version of the Bible. For 350 years it held sway over every other translation of the BIble in the Christian world. Dr. Leland Ryken, author of the new book "The Legacy of the King James Bible," explains the history, the strength, and the abiding influence of the great Reformation Bible. In the year 2011, we commemorate the anniversary of this book. What translation of the BIble would you use for your children's education and training? Do translations matter? Kevin Swanson encourages parents to educate their children in the language, the worldview, the gravitas, and the ideas conveyed in the King James Bible.

Preparing Sons for MarriageYoung people today engage in what is known as "dating."  Some are more familiar with the term "hooking up."   Some parents raise their children to play around, and to fill their hours with fun and games, and maybe even a little fornication here and there. . . and they destroy their social systems, quickly. But serious parents are asking the basic question, "How do I raise my son to take on the responsibilities of adulthood?"  In this segment, Kevin Swanson interviews Scott Brown on this important question.   Scott explains how he prepared his son economically, spiritually, and theologically to be a man, a husband, and a father.

These Aren't Your Mother's SchoolsSchools everywhere are cracking down on children, turning these institutions into little Nazi camps. Children in Texas are issued misdemeanor citations for disturbing the class or ruckusing in the playground. One little girl is put on detention for bringing a paring knife in her lunch box. With increased anarchy and the breakdown of character in the classrooms, expect more tyrannical controls. But should conservatives delight in the attempts to keep order in these classrooms, or should we oppose these rules? Kevin Swanson compares schools in the 1950's to schools in the 2010's using a humor piece from the web, on this issue of Generations.
