How to Get Boys to Enjoy Work - Mentoring Boys in the Basics

December 22, 2014
Work is about 85% of life, yet our young people are less and less prepared to work. A recent government study has found that the percentage of teens working has dropped a full 10% in 15 years. Bob Schultz, author of the book 'Created to Work,' gives some outstanding, practical advice on training young boys to work. This is some of the best, down-to-earth wisdom we've ever carried on this program. With topics like - finding joy in work, getting out of bed in a good mood, overcoming obstacles, and how to balance detail with getting the job done, this program would apply to every person who works and every parent that is training their children to work.

Sadly, a Biblically illiterate TV or movie viewer, might believe the following unbiblical claims of Hollywood: •  Mary slept with a Herodian soldier. •  Pregnant Mary was beaten by her father. •  Jesus was not born in Bethlehem. •  The magi did not follow a star, but a potential conjunction of planets. •  King Herod did not order the Massacre of the Innocents. •  Jesus lost His virginity. Guest host Adam McManus [www.AdamMcManus.net] chats with Rick Dack, founder of www.DefendingtheBible.com who says that it is imperative for Christians to truly study their Bibles so that they can easily identify a counterfeit claim a mile away because they are so familiar with the Scriptural truth.

"Tanzania Albinos Butchered by Witch Doctors," "Vaccinations Used to Mask Sterilizations," "Anglican Bishop Wants Koran read at Prince Charles' Coronation." Which is the lie? Truth IS stranger than fiction, but even hosts Steve Vaughan and Bill Jack can fall for hoaxes reported as facts. Find out on this edition of Generations Radio.

Guest host Adam McManus [www.AdamMcManus.net] chats with Ted Baehr, Publisher of www.MovieGuide.org, about the new film "Exodus: Gods and Kings" starring Christian Bale as Moses. In the MovieGuide review [http://www.movieguide.org/reviews/exodus.html], Ted notes that while portions of the script are unbiblical -- like God appearing as a young boy at the burning bush when He called Moses to lead the Jews out of Egyptian slavery -- the film can be an excellent conversation starter for Christians to talk with unbelievers about a God who redeems. In addition to responding to the criticism of "Exodus" by Christian filmmaker Geoff Botkin [http://westernconservatory.com/articles/hollywood-bible-translation], Baehr suggests 5 things Christians should do in reaction to "Exodus: Gods and Kings" [https://www.movieguide.org/news-articles/exodus-gods-kings-christian.html].

Why do teens kill? There are nature reasons – man’s heart is depraved. But what about nurture? What part does Marilyn Manson and Natural Born Killers play to encourage school shootings and teen murders? Random violent killing in schools is on the rise. Kevin Swanson interviews Phil Chalmers, who happens to be America's leading authority on juvenile homicide and juvenile mass murder. He has interviewed over 200 teen killers and school shooters. According to Phil, there are multiple factors that play into this type of crime, but there is one universal factor that plays into it every time. The influence of media on young people is more powerful and insidious than you think.

Voddie Baucham [www.VoddieBaucham.org], the preaching pastor of Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, Texas outside of Houston, grew up in South Central Los Angeles in a single parent home. He reflected on his own personal experience and his knowledge of Scripture when he discussed the counsel he gave his 7 sons about the death of Michael Brown and the subsequent race riots in Ferguson in a chat with guest host Adam McManus [www.AdamMcManus.net] and in a recent column which has been read by 1 million people. [http://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/thoughts-on-ferguson] Here are three compelling quotes: •"For many years, I blamed 'the system' or 'the man'. However, I have come to realize that it was no more 'the system' when white cops pulled me over than it was 'the system' when a black thug robbed me at gunpoint. It was sin!" •"Rest assured, I do believe there are systemic issues plaguing black men. These issues are violence, criminality, and immorality, to name a few. And all of these issues are rooted in and connected to the epidemic of fatherlessness....It is as common as morning dew, and as overlooked as dust under a refrigerator. Where are the marches against this travesty? Where are the protestors who demand better?" •"The FBI homicide stats from 2012 reveal that there were 2,648 blacks murdered. Of those, 2,412 were murdered by members of their own ethnic group. Thus, if I am going to speak out about anything, it will be black-on-black crime; not blue-on-black." Guest host Adam McManus [www.AdamMcManus.net] chats with Steve McConkey of 4 Winds Christian Athletics [www.BigPlanetWatch.com] about the outrageous decision on December 4, 2014 by 18 of the 20 members of the Minnesota State High School League board to allow transgender male-to-female students to participate on girls' athletic teams. Interestingly, they do not require that the student be in the midst of hormone "therapy" or have completed genitilia-mutilating surgeries, but simply "identify" as female. Three primary objections. 1. This violated God's divine design. 2. It is unfair to the female athletes because of the greater physical strength of a young man. And 3. It sends a message that society calls evil good. Just another reason why home education makes sense.

Here's a controversial question. Do 4 year old kids need their mothers, or should they deposit them in daycare in order to protect a double income household? When 65% of Americans now deposit their 1-6 year old children in daycare, the aggregate social results are devastating to a nation that once loved families and nurtured children in a home. Kevin speaks with Mary Eberstadt, author of Home-Alone America: The Hidden Toll of Day Care, Behavioral Drugs, and Other Parent Substitutes.
