What Fathers Can Do to Help their Daughters Get Married

With the nuclear family now making up less than half of American households, there are still a few of us pulling for our children getting married and forming more “nuclear families.” But how are our daughters getting married? At one time, they would attend college to get the M.R.S. degree. But that isn’t happening as much as it used to in the 1970’s and 1980’s. So now what?

What is a father’s role in his daughter’s life after she graduates from high school? And how do we create a social situation in which our daughters would be likely to marry the right person? Again, the Generations program addresses some of the most critical issues relating to the transitioning of our sons and daughters into adult life.

Sexual Freedom to Sexual NihilismKevin Swanson takes a look at Pop-culture, and sees signs of hope. Pop-culture is degrading fast, but it is also losing its centralized grip on the nation. But the major issue remains the disrespect for human life and the increased abortion rates (as reported by the Gutenmacher Institute).

Legal Battles, Financial Challenges, and Redemption Among the most challenging situations in the world you would find the single mother or father who commits to homeschooling. Financially, emotionally, and logistically, you will hardly find more difficult circumstances. To make things even more difficult, most of them refuse government aid in the form of welfare or even food stamps. Kevin Swanson interviews Mike Donnelly from Home School Legal Defense Association on the plight of the single parent and the generational redemption that is possible under the most difficult conditions.

Hard Core Parenting vs. Biblical Parenting A virtual war is in progress over two perspectives of parenting in the columns of the Wall Street Journal.   The Chinese Dragon Mothers insist on their children making their parents proud.  And if they shame their parents, somebody’s going to pay, pay, and pay some more.  Parental pride trumps love.  Then you have the softy permissive Western parents who don’t love their children enough to hold them to anything.  So who has more love for their kids?  Which will corrupt their society faster?

What about Socialization?Apparently nobody asked homeschooler, Teresa Scanlan about socialization last weekend when she won the Miss America Pageant. Kevin Swanson takes a look at socialization on this edition of Generations, which entails a little foray into the matter of beauty pageants. A few other ideas for contests are batted around - "The Meek and Quiet Spirit" contest, or "The Inner Beauty of the Heart" contest.

UN Convention on ChildWith the dissolution of the family in the west, comes a growing antipathy towards functional families. This is precisely what is happening in nations like Sweden and Germany. Unless we batten down the hatches and defend family freedoms, we will see increasing attacks on functional families that want to raise their children according to a biblical pattern. Here Kevin Swanson interviews Treon Goossen on the Parental Rights Amendment and the UN Convention on the RIghts of the Child.

The College ScamAnother housing bubble burst seems immanent in 2011. But the big bubble soon to burst is the college bubble, according to the National Inflation Association. Still the most over-priced and over-rated product on the market, college fees have increased five-times over the rate of inflation since the 1980’s. Will more college graduates and university professors be bucking for work at McDonalds? “Will that be paper or plastic, Ma’am?” In the wake of the present readjustments in the economy, Kevin Swanson finds this a perfect opportunity to rethink post K-12 education for our children.

Interview: Paul David TrippAmerica has the highest divorce rate in the world. The family is in shambles. Practically every church has to deal with families who have suffered from divorce, even to multiple generations. Unless we strengthen the marriage relationship, you can forget about all of the other battles for faith, family, and freedom. Here Kevin Swanson interviews Paul David Tripp, author of “What Did You Expect? Redeeming the Realities of Marriage.” Here is some very helpful advice for anybody married or about to be married to another sinner.

The Tucson RampageAny bout of anarchy provides a neat opportunity for tyrants to do more of what tyrants do best. Tyranny loves to play off of anarchy, and that’s what we find in Tucson, Arizona with the latest shooting incident. The false cause logical fallacies are fun, and Kevin and Dave go over a few of their own on this edition of Generations. Then, they point to a biblical anthropology as perhaps lending some explanation for why Loughner did what he did.
