Courageous - The Movie - Best Fiction and Movies For Families

October 5, 2011
Homeschoolers took 1st place in the Box Office last weekend, and Christians took 4th place! Christian themed movies are taking the box office by storm and have since roughly 2005. Is this a comeback for pro-family, pro-Christian, pro-homeschooling culture? Kevin Swanson interacts with homeschool father Carl Bobb on fiction, allegory, and story telling for the purpose of family edification. Is entertainment value legitimate? Where do our children get "lost in the metaphor?"

1950 - Dating 1970 - Shacking up 2010 - Hooking up Dating is passe today. It's so. . . so retro! Today, it is sex without relationship. Today, we do church without relationships. We do education without relationships. We do family without relationships. Why not sex without relationships? The world is lost, and lonely, and love-less. The world is killing human relationships, and creating hollowed out, self-oriented, narcissistic automatons. But we're actually recommending the abandonment of the unaccountable, dating system. We're going the opposite direction, entirely! We're talking about restoring family relationships - father-daughter relationships. While the world is coming apart at the seams, we're laying footers down six feet deep in our families, foundations that will hold for GENERATIONS! Included in this program is the question of marrying unbelievers, or fornicators, or ex-prostitutes.

For 5800 years of world history, fathers mentored their sons to take on their family businesses. But how would a son peel off a portion of his father's business and build his own family economy? These questions require a great deal of wisdom for fathers, especially in today's economy. Kevin Swanson interviews Wendell Sip on his successful family farm in Minnesota. What sort of character does it take to build a family farm from the bottom up? Wendell did it himself, and now he's working with his sons to repeat the process.

Those who have a vision for a nation with political freedoms like those first established in the American Republic would do well to teach their children the U.S. Constitution and the accompanying documents. Here we interview Mike Farris, president of Patrick Henry College and chairman of Homeschool Legal Defense Association has taught constitutional law for 20 years. Freedom may be taking a hiatus for a generation or two. But by God's grace, it's coming back. If it's going to come back, you had better leave a legacy of remembrance for your children and your children's children. Give them a solid understanding of the the U.S. Constitution.

81% of Americans are upset with their government, the highest percentage on record - far higher than 1974 (Watergate), and 2007 (GWB). The discontent is spreading, and there is no containing it. The gods of the modern humanist are falling hard. Finally, the American system is unraveling, and boy are they depressed. But we're not. While the rest of the world doesn't want to have children (because CNN tells us they cost $227,000 over 18 years), we're building family economic systems! We're having children for the glory of God! We're building local church communities. Kevin Swanson compares CNN numbers on having children to his own family's experience over the last 20 years, as he built a family economy and family ministries.

America is turning into the nation with the worst health, yet we certainly spend more money than any other nation (as a percentage of the GNI). We are in TERRIBLE SHAPE! Sadly, the obesity rate among Christians is not much different from that of the world around them – it is often even higher. Dr. Scott Stoll, author of the new book entitled Alive, 40 Days to Lifetime Health, explains the health basics for families who want to take better care of “the temple.”

The Gaystapo is on the march. Atheist leaders in Georgia demand the extermination of Christians. Bible Studies are shut down in California. It appears that the gloves are coming off, and the anti-Christian sentiment is growing everywhere. There is never neutrality between the world and Christ, and we're just waking up to the fact that detente is impossible. But what is the Christian response? The answers may surprise you, on this edition of Generations.

While the 2011 S.A.T. reading scores dip to the lowest in recorded history, the good news is that homeschooling academic scores are looking better than ever (compared to previous results). The only problem with modern education is method and content. Both should be dictated and directed by God's Book on Education - the book of Proverbs. Here Kevin Swanson introduces his 3-volume series for families on the book of Proverbs. This is the core curriculum.

About 45% of American women have committed the crime of murder. About 10% are ingesting a "Morning After" pill, and 35% will avail themselves to the clinical abortion. But will people admit to have committed the crime of murder? Ray Comfort's new movie "180" is about to be released. You will witness shocking interviews with people who faced with endorsing abortion, Nazism, and other atrocities, reversing their positions within just a few minutes. Right away, Ray hopes to distribute 200,000 copies immediately in 100 of the largest universities in America. The powerful movie speaks to the very heart of the American (and western) cultures. It may be the best movie ever produced that speaks so directly to the American conscience, and connects abortion to the gospel of Christ!

Several youth leaders from Colorado Springs, Colorado are on trial for sex offenses. Meanwhile, the Divided Movie that questions the whole system of youth groups and youth pastors has gone viral on the internet. Articles in USA Today and Washington Post are addressing age segregation and family-integrated churches. So Kevin Swanson takes the opportunity to address the youth group question. What are the real problems with youth groups and age-segregated ministry? And why would a conference on Deut. 6:7 in Dallas exclude a ministry that advocates parent-driven discipleship of children in the home? Scott Brown from the NCFIC also joins us on this segment of the program.

Just about everybody wants to build character into their children. But what does that "character" look like for CHRISTIANS, and how do we get it? David Watkins is a homeschool pioneer, a national leader, and a father of eight children. In this interview, we delve to the heart of Christian home education. What does a relationship with Christ have to do with character, or science or history, for that matter? For those who are raising children with a heart towards honing character and forming a relationship with Jesus Christ, this will be a very helpful discussion!
