Christian Homeschool Girl Turns Atheist - Colleges, Classical Education, and Apostasy

May 4, 2012
The stories are pouring in as the apostasy continues. Nice little homeschool girls turn into raging, feminist atheists. But why? God is sovereign over all things, but there are issues of human responsibility we can talk about. Some say that the majority of homeschooling graduates and Christian school graduates are fading away from the Christian faith and turning into humanists, feminists, and atheists. 50% of the Millennials raised in a church are no longer associated with any church. Many more are looking for the flakiest church they can find. So what gives? On this edition of Generations, Kevin Swanson interacts with questions related to classical education, colleges, and the apostasy of Christian kids.

If Congress Won't Act, I Will! That's the new campaign cry for the Barack Obama 2012 candidacy. The Executive Orders are picking up, although not to the levels of Bill Clinton hit (as yet). Are we moving closer to a dictatorship? Dictatorships are much more efficient when it comes to centralizing power and "getting things done" (at least if you are talking about governmental involvement in our lives and the rise of tyranny). Steve Vaughn joins us to talk about the recent scandals in Washington and the move towards dictatorship (as we follow the old Roman pattern from Republic to Empire). With the failure of the Christian faith in this country and the religious pluralism allowed in our public institutions, the doors are opening to animal sacrifice and even human sacrifice. A recent attempt at a human sacrifice in San Diego failed to gain public acceptance (for now). Kevin Swanson emphasizes the importance of biblical law to halt the growth of paganism in our churches and communities.

How does a church develop a music form for people who come out of a fragmented culture—when the youth are attached to one form and the older generation hold onto another? What if all roots in historical forms have been severed? Is there a secular-sacred distinction to be drawn into worship? Do we use forms that are wholly unfamiliar to the people who come into worship? These happen to be some of the more controversial issues being discussed within the church today. Here Kevin Swanson interviews Gregory Wilbur on his compositions for worship music contained in the Ligonier compilation “My Cry Ascends.”

Over 70% of children born in the inner city are born without fathers. The problems seem to be getting worse with each decade, especially in the inner city. Is there any hope for the family in these present conditions? Where there is Christ, of course there is always hope! Both Germaine and Terese Bellamy were raised by single mothers in California. Here is a story of redemption and reconstruction of family life. If it can happen with one family, it can happen for millions more. Germaine and Terese tell their story, and then they share how God is using them to disciple more young men and women in the Word and ways of God.

2012 is a big year for the New Age crowd. Some believe that December 21, 2012 brings in a new eschaton. The influence of New Age thinking on language, education, politics, culture, and medicine has been immense (especially over the last 20 years or so). Here we analyze New Age thinking and discuss the questions of yoga, alchemy, and water witching.

There are 1,183,700 violent crimes committed in the public schools in a given year, according to reports from the Department of Education and the Department of Justice. But there are only 1,209,000 violent crimes reported to the police in any given year—in the entire country! So what gives? Many violent crimes happening in schools are not reported to the police, including half of the “serious” violent incidents. Why are there more violent crimes happening in the public schools than on the streets? Are parents aware of the pressure cooker of violence simmering away in public schools in the present day? In the wake of the Voice of the Martyrs tragedy, Kevin Swanson also addresses the problem of suicide among “professing” Christians.

The Girl Scouts is turning into an organization that promotes lesbianism, feminism, abortion, and Planned Parenthood. Is this really something that Christians want to get behind? Kevin Swanson contrasts the Girl Scout vision to a biblical vision for femininity, and recommends that Christians not promote the Girl Scouts.

What are the major challenges facing the church today? How have programs and youth ministries interrupted God’s intentions for family AND church? Kevin Swanson interviews Brian Cosby, author of a new book entitled Giving Up Gimmicks, on his experience in youth ministry. Brian recommends discipleship and the simple preaching and teaching of the Word of God as the means by which God works His powerful work of salvation.

Men, your wives need to listen to this terrific interview with Leah Smith, author of a new book entitled Diapers, Dishes, and Dominion. Leah says that too many women are overcome by fear and faithlessness—seriously hampering a vision for dominion.

The Obama administration is proposing new rules that would "not let 15-year-old farm kids use a flashlight or a wheelbarrow!" The formidable forces against family economies are relentless. Whether it be socialists, communists, or centralizing capitalists, family farms and family economies face incredible opposition! Yet, these businesses provide hope for the future, stability and growth for economies, upward mobility, not to mention a re-integration of the family in the present day. Many families have fought hard for family-based education. Will we have to engage the struggle for the freedom to mentor our sons in farm-work and other family businesses as well?

Nothing chronicles the destruction of an entire social system like the soaring illegitimacy rates. And 2012 marks the first year in the history of this country where the majority of children born to 30 year old women (and younger) are born without fathers. . . 53%. That's up from 6% in 1960 and 0.69% in 1660! Kevin Swanson covers 500 years of the problem of illegitimacy in the western world, and illustrates the utter devastation of the last 50 years in America, Sweden, England, and elsewhere. The socialists and the humanists have finally succeeded in bringing about the humanist dream. But the destruction of the family will mean the destruction of civilization and the social order.
