Have you ever wondered if you could lose your salvation? If so, you are not alone. In our thirty plus years of fielding questions on the Basic Gospel radio broadcast, the one we’ve answered the most is “Can I lose my salvation?”
People are afraid that they have out-sinned the grace of God, or that they have exhausted the limits of God’s forgiveness. They simply do not understand the finished work of Jesus or the power of his indestructible life. Instead of resting in Christ and enjoying the salvation that is theirs, they worry and fret that they have not done enough to maintain their salvation.
Here is the good news. Jesus did do enough. His death, burial and resurrection guarantee that salvation is forever. Verse after verse, and passage after passage, proclaim this wonderful news. The strongest come from the mouth of Jesus, like this passage in John.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My father who has given them to me is greater than all; no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one (John 10:28-30).
These are red-letter words. Jesus gave you eternal life and promised that you would never perish. Jesus is God. He and the Father are one. No one has the power to overturn or reverse what they have accomplished. He has put you in the most secure place you could ever be. You are in his hand, and in the Father’s hand, and as Jesus said, no one can snatch you out. You are safe and secure in Christ. Neither Jesus, nor God the Father, will ever lose their grip on you.
You are in the hand of the God of the universe, placed there by Jesus Christ himself. Now that’s assurance of salvation.
