The Holy Spirit Convicts You

Read

"But now I am going away to the one who sent me, and not one of you is asking where I am going. Instead, you grieve because of what I've told you. But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don't, the Advocate won't come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God's righteousness, and of the coming judgment." John 16:5-8

Reflect

There are two parts of the Holy Spirit's work of conviction. It is a one-time event that brings you to Christ and an ongoing work that keeps you close to Christ.

The initial convicting work of the Spirit opened your eyes to your spiritual helplessness and the need for a Savior. Perhaps you first learned of Jesus from a friend, a sermon, or reading the Bible on your own. But it was the Spirit's work that exposed you to your desperate situation apart from God. It was the Spirit who caused you to see that Jesus died for you and convinced you to trust in Christ as the One who paid the penalty of your sin.

Respond

Take some time to think about how the Holy Spirit first revealed your sin and opened your eyes to see your need for Jesus.
