God is Holy
Sunday, May 20, 2012
There is a quality of God that is beautiful, powerful, and also helps wake us up from the build-a-god delusion. It’s his holiness. In this message, Gordon Dabbs explains how God's holiness is different from us. When the message of God's holiness is really understood, you don’t become paralyzed by terror, when it’s properly understood, you are awestruck and overwhelmed with the urge to worship.

Divine Dictionary

Emily Dickinson once said, “I know nothing in the world that has as much power as a word. Sometimes I write one, and I look at it, until it begins to shine.”

In Scripture, certain words appear over and over again. Faith. Love. Grace. Redemption. Righteousness. Justification. These God-breathed words bring structure, depth and purpose into a world that is often chaotic, shallow and self-serving. When these words are ignored or misused, power leaks out of the Christian life. In his Divine Dictionary message series, Gordon Dabbs will help us look at these words until they shine.

If words have power, divine words have supernatural power to refresh and shape us.

About Prestoncrest - Sunday Morning

Our ministers focus their morning messages on God's purpose and how it related to real life issues. None of us are perfect and we do not pretend to be. Instead we focus on a relationship with God.

About Preaching Minister Gordon Dabbs

Gordon and Ila Dabbs have been married for 15 years and have two beautiful children, Claudia (11) and David (8). Gordon was born and raised in Neosho, Missouri and Ila is a Texas native who spent much of her childhood in Enid, Oklahoma.

The Dabbs have been working with the Victory Church of Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the past ten years. Since planting the church, they have seen it grow into a dynamic congregation with a weekly attendance of 200 and a maturing Brazilian leadership.

Gordon's academic credentials include graduating from Oklahoma Christian University, completing an M.A. in Ethics and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Oklahoma, and an M.A. in Biblical Interpretation from LCU.

Ila holds an M.A. in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma.

Since moving to Rio, Gordon has spoken at a number of international conferences, hosted a weekly television program, and been a key leader in Rio's flagship mission project. Gordon has a special burden for disadvantaged children and has developed relationships between the Victory Church and two orphanages in Rio de Janeiro.

With a passion for developing those around him, for preaching practical messages, and for reaching out to the weak and hurting, Gordon believes that God has called his family to begin a powerful partnership with the Prestoncrest family.
