Urban Farms - Feed a Family on 1/3 of an Acre!

November 9, 2011
For those who don’t want to rely so heavily on big business and big government, and for those who want to build family economies, urban farms may be the way to go. You don’t have to invest $600,000 to buy 400 acres in Kansas. You can plant a garden in your backyard (or your front yard for that matter)! The trend is taking off around the nation. Even Detroit is turning some of its burned-out neighborhoods back into God’s green earth. Kevin Swanson interviews Greg Peterson from Urbanfarm.org about what he has done with his third of an acre in Phoenix, Arizona.

Companies selling home drug tests report huge increases over the last few years. When a mother has to rifle through her daughter’s dresser, does she break the “trust”? When relationships are soured, and rebellion is the norm, what does a father or mother do? Kevin Swanson addresses key parental issues in this program and suggests several ways to turn the heart of that son back to Dad and Mom.

Over the last 25 years, about one million Slavic Christians have migrated from the former Soviet Union to the United States in search of religious freedom and protection for their families. But what did they find? There may be something worse than the bloody, wicked tyranny of the communists. Kevin Swanson interviews Viktor Choban and Sergei Tkachenko on the amazing saga of faith amongst the Slavic peoples. From communism to a toxic faith-destroying culture, now they seek to preserve their faith and families through homeschooling! What does the American culture do to the immigrants who come here from persecuted countries? This is an eye-opening story for anybody interested in the worldwide trends for the Christian faith in the 21st century!

Oregon parents receive six years in prison for making the wrong medical choices for their children. Meanwhile, the Pearls are in the news again in connection with another “death by discipline.” The heat is on, and parental rights are under attack in this country. But where does the Bible draw the line on child abuse? Should the civil magistrate throw the book at parents for avoiding vaccinations or opting out of surgery for a child? How did the courts handle these things in the 1920s? These may be touchy issues, but the battle for parental freedoms is an important one. Christians especially should draw the fine lines by using biblical law on this issue.

Reb Bradley is one of the most sought-after speakers in America when it comes to family issues. But Reb tells us that his gift is not doing things right the first time! After making a few mistakes himself, Reb now points out a number of issues that plague homeschoolers which have come to a crisis-point in many families. You've probably seen some of this - control freak dads who won't bow the knee to the Sovereignty of God, or parents or emphasizing the outward form over the heart of it, or over-emphasis on sheltering vs. impacting the world for Christ. This and much more in this eye-opening interview with Reb Bradley.

Psychologist John Rosemond may be the busiest “parenting expert” in America. With the breakdown of faith, morality, and character in this nation, John suggests that we “get back to the book.” Initially an atheist, he eventually came to realize that God had it right after all!

News of Sharia Law replacing Khadafi's dictatorial reign doesn't bring a great deal of assurance that everything's back to "hunky-dory" in war-torn North Africa. One demon leaves, seven return (as Jesus put it). With the rise of fundamental Islam and the rising interest in secularism among the youth, it appears that the turmoil may continue in this part of the world. Kevin Swanson interviews David Noor and Isaac Botkin on their recent journey into North Africa and their examination of religions and worldviews.

The Netherlands is now approving the euthanasia of those who are lonely and "socially challenged." Iceland has a lesbian prime minister, the first in the modern world, perhaps the first ever. Kevin Swanson interviews Doug Phillips on his return from Iceland, and several other European tours concerning the state of Europe and its future. Will the last few Christians from Europe escape to America on the European collapse? Why is Europe ahead of America in its present decline?

“Character is essential for our children.” It would be hard to find anybody – whether humanist, atheist, or Muslim – who might disagree with that statement! But what do WE mean when we talk about biblical character, and how does ours differ from ordinary run-of-the-mill pagan character? Kevin Swanson interviews Rick Boyer on how to teach your children biblical character (both heart and hands) using God’s Word.

Do we treat our children as pagans? Do we encourage them to pray? Do we teach them obedience before we teach them about faith in Christ? When is a child converted, and what does that look like? Some have taught a "presumptive regeneration." Some teach Christian parents to be faithless. But where is the biblical balance here? Dr. Joel Beeke takes us through these thorny issues, and establishes a biblical understanding of the covenant home in this short interview. Take this as an introduction to Dr. Beeke's important new resource for parents - "Parenting by God's Promises."

Why do American Christians break their covenants? America has the highest divorce rate in the world, and the divorce rate among evangelicals is usually higher than that of Catholics. In the wake of the Marriage Conference, Kevin Swanson interviews Scott Brown on the relationship of marriage and the Gospel.
