The President’s Speech - A Very Bad Budget Bill

March 29, 2018

The president signed off on another $500 million for Planned Parenthood, and another $1.3 Trillion big government budget bill. But, what we are really concerned with is the Fox News and Wall Street Journal report on the president’s language. It is a reflection of the nation. The present sexual scandals do not seem to have much of an effect on the president’s approval rating. At root, character is of essence — far more important than rhetoric. And, the fear of God is the absolutely necessary component of character for the governance of a nation.

ABC News issues a piece on aborted fetuses used in the MMR vaccine. So we ask the question, “Should Christians use these vaccines?” Given that not a single life has been lost to Measles in a decade, so why must California mandate the MMR vaccination? Kevin Swanson answers these questions from clear biblical references. Also, we take a look at pseudo-science in the witness box - what does the Bible say about the whole area of forensic science?

So you thought the 1960s were bad? The percentage of Americans who have “ever tried” marijuana has risen from 4% to 40% since 1969. In the 1960s, Francis Schaeffer talked about the escape from reality and the crossing over of the line of despair. The crossover is almost complete now. The use of mind-altering drugs among Americans (either on the street or over-the-counter) is on the increase. What does this mean for the country? People live out their world views, so what is that worldview?

Church is failing Generation Z, but why? The emotional experience, the lack of confrontation, the entertainment is not going to cut it, if we want to pass on the faith. Shallow teaching and a piece-meal faith isn’t going to work. We also review the progress of homosexual teen movies, which are meeting a new homosexual teen audience that is growing in leaps an bounds.

News reports on the the Austin bombing suspect point to his homeschooled background. As the media seeks the motive, we find it in the human heart. After 40-50 years of experience working with homeschooling, the Generations team discusses some of the weaknesses or traps that homeschoolers can fall into. We discuss anti-establishmentarianism and the temptation to anarchy which attends those who knee-jerk react against big government tyranny.

Evangelicalism has seen its better days. God is at work around the world, but the Western world is languishing and the old way of training pastors has fallen on hard times. The agenda for training pastors must not be set by scholars. Where is the spiritual training in the field? Where is the one-on-one discipleship? It’s time to bring a reformation into the preparation of pastors and elders for the next generation of churches. We need more spiritual men, Galatians 6:1 men, praying men, Spirit-filled men, and self-denying, cross-carrying men to lead the church in our day. How do we get them? Kevin Swanson interviews Richard Pratt, Director of Third Millennium Ministries which is working with local churches to train up 689,000 students to ministry in 200+ nations around the world.

How do you counteract the godlessness of the day? How do you counteract the power of media, and the alternate teachers and disciplers that want to disciple your children for 40-60 hours per week? How do you counteract the massive apostasy of the millennial generation? Every family needs to address the present scenario with radical faith, radical discipleship, and radical love for God. We discuss this family discipleship with Pastor Geoff Gleason on this edition of the program.

The great philosophers of our day are asking the question: if the world is better than ever before with all of its technology and proud empires, why are we so miserable? Man is still pretending to be optimistic, but it is a fraud. We take up an article by Andrew Sullivan in New York Magazine. Man is more dehumanized than ever in the humanistic age. What gives? Has science saved us or is it destroying us?

Madeline L’Engle’s “A Wrinkle in Time” represented a breakthrough for children’s literature in 1961, introducing pantheism, mediums, and witchcraft to kids. However, the movie edition was a disappointment to Christians, since Hollywood chose to leave Christ out of the pantheon of the gods. We take a look at the cheap new age cliches used in these movies, and challenge Christians to get a clue and a worldview.

Ireland is the last pro-life country in the Western world. But now, this country is turning pro-abortion on national polls after 1,500 years of Patrick’s influence. What would Patrick think? That's a good question to ask on St. Patrick’s Day 2018. It’s the younger generation that is far more in favor of abortion, and we suggest three reasons why - An evolutionary mindset, a bad example from the previous generation, and Game of Thrones.

Public school students emptied out of the classrooms and rushed out on to the streets protesting gun violence, and calling for gun control. Youth empowerment is a scary thing, and marks something of the judgment of God on a nation (cf. Isaiah 3:4-6). We discuss the importance of honoring parents for the building of culture, that things may go well with us in the land.
