Baptist Kids Turning Catholic - Post-Modern Musical Chairs

February 15, 2019

Fifty percent of Americans switch religions/denominations before they turn fifty. Kevin Swanson takes a look at a Wall Street Journal article of a Baptist family whose sons turn Anglican and Roman Catholic. And, everybody's quite happy about it. Is choosing a denomination about the same as choosing Mint Chip or Rocky Road at the Baskin Robbins' counter? Are people turning to a "traditionalism" for the same reason they're hanging out with Rob Bell? Here we discuss the post modern game of musical chairs and changing churches.

The few Mennonites in Quebec are fast losing religious liberty, especially when it comes to raising their children in the fear of God. We take a look at the strengths of Mennonites and the tensions between involvement in politics and disengagement, cultural transformation and cultural avoidance or escape. What's the gating factor for staying or leaving? When do Christians get out of Dodge?

Does your daughter know the derivative of a cosine? Does she know how the pinocytic vesicle functions in the Amoeba? Does she know who Rome fought in the Punic was? Can she parse just about any Latin verb? And, does she know how to integrate knowledge into life? Most educated children have no idea how to solve problems, how to manage households, how to engage life and contribute to an economy. That is because most education sadly lacks the life integrative element. We provide some practical guidelines here for incorporating the life integration element in your children’s education.

Are young men looking for debt-free virgins without tattoos to marry? Or do they prefer college educated women who will work for a living and take birth control, so that the young men can keep playing video games? We look at two different articles that take a different angle at this question. Would it be better to marry a repentant prostitute who is at the feet of Christ washing His feet with her tears, over against some homeschooled girl who is a debt-free virgin without a tattoo, but unconverted? We discuss the consequences of sin, the problem of debt, the question of college for our daughters, but land on the Gospel as the most important message for our day.

States are mandating comprehensive sex education in perversions for all charter schools and government-funded homeschool programs. When homeschooling parents take the government dollars they subject their children to these mandates. It’s time to realize that what Caesar funds, Caesar will control. About 92% of evangelical kids are still in public schools, while 9 states mandate pro-homosexual teaching for 5-18 year old kids. At what point should Christian churches excommunicate parents who willfully submit their children to transgender and homosexual indoctrination? Are there real Christian churches that are concerned about the little lambs in their congregations, and what should godly pastors do? Finally, some Christians are realizing that education is not neutral, and it is time to insist on a distinctively Christian education and discipleship for our children.

Lady Gaga and Ocascio-Cortez see themselves as good Christians, better Christians than Vice President Mike Pence. Increasingly, media and political debates are centering around who is the “better Christian” — the tolerant ones or the intolerant ones of stuff like killing children and homosexual perversions. We interact with Lady Gaga’s Facebook post with Becky Roach. But, the real question we grapple with is this: “Are true Christians against abortion and homosexuality?” Or is that another superficial, practically meaningless reduction?

Virginia’s Governor Ralph Northam lost his political support from his own party, because somebody put the wrong picture, a bad picture, on his yearbook page in 1986. Never mind his support of infanticidal negligence. Never mind his failure to fear God. But, what brings these leaders down? What is the more fundamental problem? Meantime, the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities explain why they would persecute Christian businesses by their support of homosexuality. But, the more fundamental problem was a failure to fear God.

Where materialistic evolution most trips and falls on its face is when it confronts the origins of man and the ontology of man. What is man? How is he different from the other sentient life? How did he come to be so different? What is this sense of righteousness and morality about him? Dr. Edgar Andrews engages this topic with more thoughtfulness and down-to-earth argumentation than anything you’ve ever heard before. Richard Dawkins called Dr. Andrews a “wing nut,” but what is the more rational approach to understanding the rational mind and person of man? After listening to this, you will conclude that it is materialistic evolutionary theories that fail to interact with the data rationally.

While empires fall and the department heads of education are sputtering about how wonderful transgenderism would be taught in Christian schools and Sunday Schools, Christians must commit themselves to a more optimistic education for their kids. This is a clarion call for an optimistic education in a pessimistic age. We don’t want our kids committing suicide and participating in the massive drug abuse and transgender culture. But, what is this education that Jesus wants for our children? Why is Jesus’s kingdom more impressive than Napoleon’s or the American empire which is fading away?

It turns out liberal arts professors in top 51 liberal arts colleges in America are. . . LIBERAL! The ratio of Republicans to Democrats is 49 to 1!! Were we sending our kids there to be sure that the next generation of pastors, political leaders, and academic teachers/professors in Christian colleges will be twice as liberal as the last batch? J.D. Grear and Matt Chandler are talking Class Privilege, and there is a great deal of debate over Tim Keller’s social justice theories, and appreciation for Marxists. We carefully analyze Mr. Keller’s actually quotes, and compare with Scripture.

We try to figure out why college-aged kids are leaving church by the droves - 70% of them. And most of them leave church “unintentionally.” That means most kids are attending church unintentionally! Families attend church like they drop in on Taco Bell. However, what they fail to understand is the church is not Taco Bell. The Church is not an event. It is the body of the living Christ. And to join the body of Christ is an all-or-nothing proposition.
