Thinking Right About Self, Part 1
“For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith” (Romans 12:3).
First we consider the fact that man tends to think highly of himself. We look at several biblical examples of those who were elevated in pride. Then we see from scripture God’s view of man in his fallen state. The verdict as to man’s condition depends not on his own assessment, but on God’s view of the matter. We also consider the correct view of human life. Although man is a sinner, life is given by God and is to be valued. Finally we look at man’s condition by grace.
