Remembering Jesus, Part 1
“When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt” (Hosea 11:1).
First in the text we are called to remember great mercy. God loved His son and delivered him just as He delivers those who were chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world. But then we see a sad departure. The people turned from serving God and sacrificed to Baalim. And then next, we see a gentle teacher. God says, “I taught Ephraim to go, taking them by their arms.” As a father would teach his child to walk, holding him up by his arms, so the Lord blessed His people in olden times even as He blesses them today by His sustaining grace.
