References: Hebrews 12

Sunday was Father's Day and it was time to applaud fathers for all the diapers they are changing, the dishes they are washing, the vacuuming they are doing--as well as working a job and coaching little league. There needs to be more stress upon this servant leadership in the home, but at least there is progress. What concerns me, however, is that in all the stress upon the sharing of responsibilities in the home, we have thrown out the need for dad to represent Christ’s authority in the home. In the first century, the writer of Hebrews could simply assume that he could compare God's fatherly discipline to a natural father's discipline of his children. What have we lost with all the emphasis upon individual freedom, rejection of authority, and everyone doing what is right in their own eyes? Turn to Hebrews 12:5-14 and listen.
