Ask someone who grew up in Sunday School where the Messiah was to be born and they rattle off, "Bethlehem, of course." They can probably even tell you that this was predicted in Micah 5:2 800 years before the Bethlehem birth. But do you know how this prophecy fits into the confrontation that Micah was having with his people in 701 BC as the Assyrians besieged Jerusalem? It was the worst of times for his people, and it's the worst of times for many of us this Christmas season. Can Micah's words still give us joy, peace, and hope?
