The Gods of the Copybook Headings

October 13, 2008
Terror and Slaughter
For several generations, Americans refused to acknowledge the warnings sounded by prophets of the day against the debauched money system, the thievery, the redistribution of the wealth, the greed, and the massive debt. Well, the gods of the copybook headings with terror and slaughter return.
The present Wall Street collapse is now affecting almost every other nation in the world. We are also learning that the debtor is servant to the lender, as China holds 1.4 trillion dollars of our mortgage debt may be calling the shots. The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 offers policing authority to the Chinese. Will we see Chinese policing evictions on American soil?
Kevin Swanson identifies the real problem in this critical broadcast. We are the problem. We have given way to excessive greed and debt ourselves. We have followed the examples of our leaders. We have taken excessive risks with our neighbor's money. And it is us who need to repent.

Government School Funding When you are up against a 600 billion dollar monopoly, that is the greatest purveyor of an evolutionary, naturalist, materialist worldview, (as well as big government socialism and homosexuality), what do you do? One thing you would not want t do – increase its funding. While we would grant there are some exceptional Christian teachers in the system, not many of them can buck a system that by Supreme Court mandate cannot teach that the beginning of wisdom and knowledge is the fear of God. In one of the worst economic times ever, the government-funded education programs are pressing for tax increases across the country. Kevin Swanson recommends a no-vote.

How One Man Stopped a Massacre It was July 25, 1993. A cadre of terrorists entered a church building in South Africa, in what turned out to be the most dramatic church attack in modern history. Armed with AK-47s and grenades, they were prepared to kill hundreds of parishioners. There was however, something they were not counting on - Charl Van Wyk and his 38 special revolver. Kevin Swanson interviews Charl on this experience and a more recent attack that occurred in July, 2008. Sometimes loving your neighbor as yourself does require obeying the Nehemiah 4:14 mandate. With the recent rise of church shootings and the progressive decline into anarchy in many western states, this discussion should be of particular interest to fathers, and those responsible for caring for families and churches.

Interview: John Eidsmoe The long term blessings enjoyed by a nation like ours can only be attributed to a stability in her foundations, which must include the Constitution of the United States. If you were ever to plant a free nation again, why not draw from the wisdom of the founders of this one? John Eidsmoe, author of "Christianity and the Constitution" defends the Christian roots of this country in this interview, and laments the slow erosion of its principles in modern courts and legislatures.

And Why We Christians Shouldn't Laugh In the which Kevin Swanson asks why Christians produce some of the weakest humor. Why must we be confined to weak, fluffy, infantile, and shallow humor? Suppose that you actually had a worldview worth defending, could you use humor as a weapon in the war? Douglas Wilson, author of "The Serrated Edge," joins Kevin Swanson to discuss the power of humor, the joy of humor, and the risks you take when you ride on the serrated edge. The program includes some interaction with the great humorists of the day - Ann Coulter, P.J. O'Rourke, and P.G. Wodehouse. We're talking more than an occasional smirk here - maybe even a guffaw at the appropriate time.

Not a High Tech Concept ust another average dad, Todd Wilson joins a run-of-the-mill dad to talk about the restoration of dadology on this segment of Generations. You'd be surprised. It's not as high-tech as it's cracked up to be.

Perfectionism or Principles With the November elections quickly approaching, Kevin Swanson tries to identify the most conservative captain of this Titanic - at least the guy who will conserve the most fuel as the boat plows into the iceberg. Kevin makes the point that one's perspective of politics tie into his perception of the state of the nation. Are third party supporters insisting on perfection of their candidates? Should they settle for the lesser of two evils, whichever that is? At what point should one insist on principled candidates? As a one-time third-party candidate himself for governor in Colorado, Kevin Swanson interacts with the psychology of third-party voting in America.

The Dissolution of the Family Now the UK exceeds America in illegitimate births, with a rate increase of 5X since 1975. So far nothing is slowing the destruction of the family, demographic winters, and more social anarchy. What will happen in 30 years from now? Unless Christians will commit to covenants, long-term relationships, relational discipleship and accountability in the home - radical measures to rework the social structure of a child's raising, we will only see a worsening situation in years to come. Kevin Swanson sounds a well-timed warning in this episode of Generations - to families that are listening.

How one Becomes an Atheist The great bugaboo for atheists is the sovereignty of God and the problem of evil. They cannot believe that God can be sovereign while they are not. Kevin Swanson refers to several testimonies of atheists on this segment of Generation. He points out that the atheist cannot take evil seriously because he has no standard by which he could even define it. Illustrating the internal incoherence of the atheist worldview, he demonstrates how Christians have the best explanation for the problem of evil in the world.

Defining Love Amidst accusations of being a most "unloving" radio program, Kevin Swanson sets out to define love. What did Rudyard Kipling mean when he wrote, "It started by loving his neighbor, and ended by loving his wife?" Or what does a cannibal mean when he says, "I love this guy?" Jesus said, "If you love me, you'll keep my commandments." The law of God must define love, and Kevin Swanson suggests that Christians might be more relevant to ethical discussion, if they would acknowledge an objective law.

The Family Integrated Church Is the church working to dis-integrate the family or re-integrate the family? Churches are beginning to grapple with the long-term weaknesses of a disintegrated family, and are returning to God's principles governing church-family relationships. Kevin Swanson interviews Bo Skein, a pastor who captured this vision in the 1990s for father-based, family-oriented child discipleship. This program describes the relational model of church-life in a programmic, post-modern age.
