The Brave New World Marches On

March 8, 2011
Snow-flake Children, Secular Foster Systems, and Patricide

A homeschooled 12-year-old is being charged with killing his parents last week in eastern Colorado. These stories are not new. A 10-year-old from Ohio is charged with shooting his mother a few weeks ago after she asked him to gather firewood. Two-three generations of cultural dishonor towards parents is beginning to bear fruit. Maybe Jesus had it right in Matthew 15. Then, the high court in the UK commits the foster care system to sodomites and those in favor of the act, rejecting Christians carte blanche. This leads to a discussion on adoption, "snowflake" children, and the Christian's responsibility in the Brave New World.

A Worldwide Vision for Family and FaithBelieve it or not, parents in the jungles of Ecuador are facing the same problems with secularism, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, sex education for young tykes, etc. that everyone else is dealing with. The problems of secularism are universal today. But the solutions are the same. You know! Deuteronomy 6:7. Homeschool veteran and friend of the program, Marcia Washburn reports on her recent trip into the jungles of Ecuador to equip and encourage families in Christian home education. The Shuar peoples just received the Bible in their own language. Now they want to read it, and disciple their children in it! THIS IS AN INSPIRING STORY. YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS IT.

Interview: John HodgesYou've heard about the Marxist revolutions and humanist revolutions of the past 200 years. But what about the cultural revolution, spawned by Wagner and others in the 19th century? Will the effects of the cultural revolution be worse than the horrible, bloody Marxist revolutions of the 20th century? Kevin Swanson interviews musician, conductor, and lecturer John Hodges on the history of the cultural revolution from Beethoven to Wagner to Eminem. How do Christians engage the revolution? Where do we go from here? How do we minister with refugees from the cultural revolution who wander into our churches? Here is one of the most interesting conversations on culture we've ever taped for the Generations broadcast!

Blame John Dewey and DarwinThe list of the laws that the Obama administration doesn't feel like enforcing is growing. Apparently, the Defense of Marriage Act is over. After all, somebody did some research and found that 54% of Americans approve of it. The rejection of the rule of law doesn't happen over night. Kevin Swanson demonstrates how Charles Darwin and John Dewey fought hard to remove "the fixed and final" from morals, politics, and religion. Ideas have consequences, and we are going to have to live with the consequences for another 50 years or so!

Profanity in the MoviesKevin Swanson reviews the good, the bad, and the ugly in the 2011 Academy Awards. Cross-dressing, sexual nihilism, and profanity seems to be the name of the game. But even Christian bands will launch an f-bomb from time to time. What about an occasional use of the s-word? Kevin Swanson explains the meaning of the f-word, the d-word, and other profanities, contrasting them to the worst possible thing you can do in human conversation - "take God's name in vain. "

Women in CombatA homeschooled young wrestler in Iowa forfeits in the State Championship, refusing to wrestle a girl in the egalitarian competition. Three worldviews compete today and two of are winning in the west. The Muslim worldview treats women a little better than dogs (maybe). The Humanist worldview turns the world into a dog-eat-dog world, and women will be abused because of it. The Christian worldview isn’t doing so well in the west, but it’s a great worldview!

The Nations RagedPractically the entire Middle East is in civil turmoil. Revolution is spreading across Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Iran, Bahrain, Yemen, and Wisconsin. The problem of course with revolution is that it never improves the state of the people. Since the French Revolution, humanist democracies have sought an improvement in society through this means. But should Christians ever participate in revolutions? What about labor strikes? Kevin Swanson takes a biblical perspective towards this important social issue.

How They Made ItRecently, we have seen a host of young entrepreneurs pulling away from the college model, and making a success of it in the marketplace. It is partially a derivative of the homeschooling movement. But the component of mentorship is inescapable. Kevin Swanson interviews a couple of young men in their early 20's who learned lessons of wisdom and faith, as they built their businesses in the worst economy since World War II. You will be encouraged with hope and equipped with ideas for your own families, as you listen to this broadcast!

Author Glenn T. StantonWith homosexuality among young people on the rise, and the gender blender crunching our kids to pieces, parents need to raise their children with a proper sense of gender. But what is maleness and femaleness? How might parents introduce confusion into a child's life in these matters? Kevin Swanson discusses this critically sensitive issue with Glenn T. Stanton, author of the new book, "Secure Daughters, Confident Sons."

How the Disney Machine Corrupts the MassesNow Billy Ray Cyrus admits to GQ magazine that the Disney machine ruined his family. But these pop culture machines ruin far more than the Miley Cyrus's of the world. These powerful machines construct the pop idols that lead the tween and teen cultures. Kevin Swanson takes a look at Disney specifically on this edition of Generations. Does Disney present our young women with any models of biblical femininity that is all that helpful? What about the "princess" culture? Do our daughters yearn to be the "center of attention?" Or are they cultivating the meek and quiet spirit that puts God first, others second, and themselves last?

Reverence, A Lost Art?Reverence is a strange word to an irreverent age. How do we teach our children to be reverent? In this discussion on music with best-selling author, Dan Lucarini, we divert from the topic of music to more important issues. Music is a controversial topic in the church. But the real issues that need to be discussed are not music styles, necessarily. After years of experience as a rock musician and worship leader, Dan Lucarini provides some thoughtful considerations on music and worship for the 21st century families and churches. Don't miss this important interview!
