The word “Sabbath” is derived from the Hebrew word “rest.” “God rested from all His work” (Gen. 2:3). This was the first Sabbath. It is important to note that God blessed this day and made it holy. It is also important to note that Adam and Eve lived under the perpetual, daily blessing of the finished work of God. They lived under the blessing of the Sabbath-rest of God which was every day.
Adam and Eve believed the lie of the enemy and were led to trust in their own work rather than the perfect, completed work of God. This sin led them to be removed from the covering of God. The Sabbath-rest was lost. The blessing contained in the gospel is the fact that the Sabbath-rest is fully restored in Christ. So, what day is the Sabbath? It is every day in Christ.
