It’s our duty at CRI to help you discern the big issues — whether it’s politically-correct, or not. That’s why Hank Hanegraaff, host of the Bible Answer Man broadcast, felt strongly called of the Lord to get a very important resource into your hands as soon as possible: With God on Our Side, a DVD that addresses the very real specter of racial discrimination in Israel.
If America required people of African descent to carry special ID cards or to leave the country to make way for people of European ancestry, we would rightly be condemned as a nation that promoted racism and apartheid. And if any of our fellow Christians attempted to justify those actions on the basis of biblical proscriptions, we would protest.
But when it comes to Israel today, Christian Zionists defend ethnic cleansing as a divine command. They claim God has covenanted to give Eretz Israel — from the river of Egypt to the river Euphrates — exclusively to Jews. Supporting the displacement of Arabs, including Palestinian Christians, in order to make room for Jews is rationalized as fulfillment of the purposes of God. Just as evangelicalism now repudiates the once-common appeal to Genesis 9:27 in support of slavery of blacks, Christians must finally put to rest any thought that the Bible supports the horrors of racial discrimination wherever and in whatever form we encounter it, whether within the borders of the United States or in the hallowed regions of the Middle East.
Christians who refuse to support Zionism are sometimes accused of the terrible sin of anti-Semitism. But suggesting that the Jews are entitled to build settlements in Gaza but excluded from the blessed salvation of the gospel — or herding them into Palestine where two-thirds will die in an apocalyptic Jewish Tribulation — is the height of anti-Semitism.
In With God on Our Side, you’ll hear from Zionists like Hagee. You’ll also get an inside look at what it’s like to be part of the rapidly shrinking minority of Palestinian Christians — our brothers and sisters in Christ — living in Israel today.Dr. Gary Burge, Professor of New Testament Studies at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, contributed his years of study and experience to With God on Our Side. “What I have to realize as a Western Christian is that I am on the receiving end of an enormous, sophisticated information system,” he explains, “which is bringing to me what I would call a jaundiced view of Palestinian life. There is an untold story that you need to discover for yourself.”
