Rest in Jesus vs. Rachel Hollis’s Cardio Machine - Review of “Girl Wash Your Face”

May 18, 2020

We offer a brief review of the biggest book in evangelicalism, at least for last year — “Girl Wash Your Face.” Rachel Hollis’s worldview is basically summarized as: ““I love Jesus, and I cuss a little. I love Jesus, and I drink alcohol. I love Jesus, and some of my best friends are gay.” Anyway, we contrast this Jesus and Gospel, with the real Gospel. . . and suggest a few book worth reading from the last 15 years.

Top-Selling evangelical authors in the 20th century were Tozer, C.S. Lewis, and Bonhoeffer. Top-selling evangelical authors in 2005 were guys like John MacArthur and Larry Burkett. Now. . . the top-selling evangelical offerings are dominated by the pro-lesbian evangelical women authors — Rachel Hollis, Jen Hatmaker, et. al. This means one thing. . . Evangelicalism R.I.P. It’s a Psalm 80 and Psalm 137 moment for the Western church today.

The Cal State brick and mortar universities are closing up shop for the 2020-2021 school year. But, hundreds of California pastors and churches are planning to open services on May 31st, whatever the Governor's orders. Has the time come to break the law? And, which law are they breaking? Where do you pay honor to whom honor is due, when there are differing opinions between local and state authorities, executive and judicial branches of government? It's not all cut and dried, but there are biblical principles that are to be brought to bear.

By 2018, 71% of children born to women under 24 years of age were born out of wedlock. 57% of babies born to millennials were born out of wedlock. So now, the secular world claims the nuclear family was a mistake. We contrast the response of Jesus to the brokenness of the adulterous woman in John 8, with the Vatican’s support for transgender prostitutes. What would the real Jesus say about the broken family of the 21st century?

What in the world is happening with the world? Unemployment numbers just exceeded the Great Depression numbers of 1933. But what is the cause of all of it? Was it a disease or doubt? We take a look at the four “stabilizers” that stand between us and a complete meltdown. Will man save himself, or is it time to turn back to God?

Did a global ca-bal of billionaires and drug manufacturers created the coronavirus pandemic as part of a plan to enforce “globally mandated vaccines?” Are there really evil, rich people in the world, with hearts that are deceitful above all things and desperately wicked? Okay. Let’s say that the Coronavirus was planted by the Chinese, or, over-anxious tyrants allowed for the development of Coronavirus in Wuhan labs, or Fort Dedrick, so they could control us more, immunize us more, socialize us more, and create more tyranny. What does this knowledge do for you? Kevin Swanson suggests a little mistrust of yourself first. And then, we discuss the misconception that knowledge = power.

America is awash with over-mothered men, says one commentator. Is this the year of living hysterically? Have we been running around trying to find too many safe places? What is the root problem of a fearful culture? And most importantly, how do you get a man to be a man? When a Christian man is a man, he will overcome by the blood of the Lamb, by the word of his testimony, and he will not love his life unto the death.

Earth Day came and went, and the pope is assigning blame for the COVID-19 pandemic to environmental sins and mother earth’s indignation. Oops. Wrong religion. Yet, how does God’s law lay out the right and wrong way to care for the earth? Will there be even the slightest of reformations in the Christian church after the present crisis?

COVID-19 did not cause the current depression. There are ideas which bring about these consequences. Modern man has sallied over the line of despair, and this socio-economic system is falling down. Man has deified himself, and his gods are failing him, precisely as Psalm 115 describes it.
