A Passion for Reformation - What the Churches Need Most

October 3, 2018

Nothing is more disturbing than the lack of spiritual power and the breakdown of the church, and the handing over of our children to the nurturing systems of the enemy. We interview Joel Saint, organizer of the Future of Christendom conference in Pennsylvania, and Erick Rivas, organizer of the Sufficiency of Scripture conference in South Texas.

At the end of the day, what the church needs most is an outpouring of the Holy Spirit and a prayer life that is looking for the power of God over the programs of men.

What happens when a society removes all social restraints? Shame is out of vogue these days. The Christian church attempted to prop up a few fences and restraints in the 1990s, but that proved rather ineffective as well. The bitterness and rejection of celibacy, virginity, and courtship indicates there wasn’t much of a heart change. Yet, the consequences of a shameless, permissive society will be horrendous. Children especially will pay the price for generations to come.

The mega church leader, Andy Stanley told his congregation of 34,000 recently that the Ten Commandments no longer apply. He would rather post the Sermon on the Mount over the Ten Commandments in public places. Only trouble is, the Sermon on the Mount would be more controversial than the Ten Commandments. How do the Ten Commandments relate to the command to love? We also deal with the distinction between the moral/judicial laws and the ceremonial law.

As Christians, should we immediately rush in to defend Judge Brett Kavanaugh, the drinking parties with the guys, and the rest of it? Politics and media have idealized the highest forms of hypocrisy, but we as Christians must stick to biblical principle in the present hearings. Has Mr. Kavanaugh been too cavalier about the drinking parties and the underage drinking? We also examine the move on the part of Christian colleges like Azusa Pacific to accept homosexual relationships as a good thing.

Why are homeschooled kids raised in Christian homes three times more likely to retain faith then kids sent off to public or private school? Why are homeschooled kids equally or better socialized than their counterparts in public and private schools in socialization studies? Why are churched kids predominately public schooled twice as likely to be sexually abused than churched kids predominately homeschooled? Why are homeschooled young people 18-26 years of age, fourteen times more likely to be involved in politics? Garrett and Yvette Hampton have traveled the country interviewing hundreds of homeschoolers, and they are putting together a major motion picture that will chronicle the homeschool revolution of the last twenty years.

Does the worldview of those who produce and write Sesame Street and “How to Train Your Dragon” matter? One of the key writers of Sesame Street comes out of the closet and indicates that his experiences have informed his depiction of Ernie and Bert. We’re not as concerned about who trains your dragon, as who trains your children. Who are these producers, writers, and directors? Do their worldviews and their sexual proclivities really matter? We also take a look at the social view. Where are Big Bird’s parents? Is the village raising the children, or is the family still important?

English police are looking to arrest people for making rude comments on the internet. Texas police are issuing citation to street preachers for offending people. It’s a society that is more disrespectful than ever, but also more fragile and snowflakish than ever. How do you restore self-government to a people who have lost it? How do you salvage a society from descending into a police state? Only Christians will be able to stand in the gap against the rising police state. Here is how it can be done!

The 2018 Emmy Award ceremonies recognized Jesus, but they apparently did not want to honor Him. Why are the most popular shows the ones that feature the most sexual violence. Where are the Me Too people when you need them? We discuss the biblical view of portraying sin and violence on this edition.

One accusation (without corroboration) against Bret Kavanaugh, President Trump’s appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court, threatens to derail the whole thing. As mob justice in the court of public opinion sways to one direction or the other, it is for Christians to avoid this. What would God’s law say about these accusations brought against Mr. Kavanaugh? Also, would Christians attend these drunken parties, as admitted to by the accuser? Drunken parties become a seedbed for a whole lot of sin, and young people subject themselves to this sort of thing.

Should your children go into acting, produce movies, and get involved in Hollywood? The industry is often clogged up in egos, pride, lust, and idolatry. We discuss the need for Christians in the arts with Dan Nuckols, film producer and artist. He introduces the film, “Oh Aching Soul” on this edition of Generations.

Some of the younger generation are staying evangelical, but they are moving liberal. Surveys find they don’t want to reverse Roe v. Wade, they like homosexual marriage and free health care. However, they aren’t much different from their parent’s generation. They are rejecting conservative values, but then conservatives never went for God’s law much to begin with.
