The Message that Paved the Way for America Part 22

August 23, 2012
Some of the outstanding effects of the First Great Awakening were that under God's Word people were united like never before with shared goals to make self-sacrifices and to serve one another. The message of the First Great Awakening formed the mentality of the Founding Fathers. The First Great Awakening also brought Christianity to the African slaves and amazing things took place. A nation like no other in human history was truly born.

Do you have an in-depth knowledge on how God works through covenants?  The early colonists learned this through the preaching of the First Great Awakening preachers. They learned that God only works through covenants.  The result of this was uniformity of their faith and this shaped the American Revolution which brought freedom.

What were the effects of the First Great Awakening and why are they important for us today?  One of the effects is that it moved the country toward a national identity.  Also, it released people from the oppressive religious denominations. This new found freedom prepared the children of the revivalists for the mentality necessary to found the new nation. This is the movement that shaped the minds of the Founding Fathers.

What were the lasting effects of the First Great Awakening? In what practical ways did this phenomenon impact a budding nation and what is the relevancy for us today? We must always be reminded that God is the Lord of all of His creation and it does not matter what people do to take try to take His place, they will never succeed.

How much do you live in the reality that someone around you is already destined for hell and they don't even know it but you do? If you have this knowledge, how is it that you do not lift a lamenting cry for them before God? Living oblivious or insensitive of the spiritual condition of those around us means we are not facing every day with God's full perspective in view and how many other things are slipping right by us and we are not aware?

It is a real travesty when people do not think about how real and everlasting eternity is.  When you think about how horrific hell is it makes you wonder why everyone would not want to do whatever it takes to avoid going to hell. There will be no end to misery for those who go there, yet people live oblivious or in denial or neglectful of what can keep them out from eternal death forever.

Can the United States of America continue to trample on the Bible and tear it apart and still expect God's blessings?  It is very common to say and hear the phrase "God Bless America" but can God bless a nation that persists in mocking him?  How dare we as a people try to modify the character of God and think that He will remain passive about that!  The parallels in Jonathan Edwards of 280 years ago that sparked the First Great Awakening still pounds at our hearts today because God's requirements for right living have not changed.

There comes a point if the stubbornness of humans continues that God's fierce anger is unleashed and no amount of cries, shrieks, and pleading will hold back the negative sanctions.  Once God's fury is unleashed it's unstoppable.  There is nothing anyone can do to deter God from what He has already determined.

In his message, "Sinners in the hands of an angry God" Jonathan Edwards he reminded his audience of the grave danger they were in if they continued to provoke the anger of God by  not living according to His standards. Taking the Mediator, Jesus, for granted is not an option because Jesus will never mediate for anything that goes against what Father God has already established.

Jonathans Edwards clearly reminded his audience that God is under no obligation to hold back his wrath when people persist in their rebellion to his precepts.  Even if you have a form of religiosity and may have reformed certain things in your life or attend a congregation or place of worship regularly, but if there has been no great change of heart by the Spirit of God, it is questionable if you have even been born again.

Continuing with the analysis of Jonathan Edwards' message, "Sinners in the hands of an angry God", we must learn that just because God's judgment doesn't happen immediately when sin is committed doesn't mean that the consequences are not accumulating against us and when sin has reached its limit the wrath of God will burst forth like waters that burst a dam.

About The Future of America

We want to help restore America's original foundation in biblical Christian principles which made it the most powerful and prosperous nation in the world in a relatively short time but America has not reached it full potential. Ideas have consequences and they are passed on from generation to generation. To eradicate error, the moral and ethical principles of the Bible must be firmly established in the hearts and minds of each individual. If America is going to survive, its citizens must become re-acquainted with its history, heritage and biblical immovable principles and apply them once again to all areas of life. We hope this program will inspire and challenge you so together we can fulfill our responsibility before God and country to make the difference for our generation many generations to come.
