Is Suffering Entirely Negative? Part 2

February 24, 2020

Suffering due to evil will confront all of us sooner or later. We can wait until we are faced with it to barely begin to think about it or how to handle it. But by then we have lost valuable time that we could have been better prepared. In Christ, we have the amazing ability to experience deep sorrow and suffering but at the same time experience joyfulness, but not without first diligently seeking a close walk with God. How do we achieve this?

What can shape us better, suffering or health and prosperity? Wishful thinking wants to say health and prosperity. In a fallen world where we are threatened on every side, no one is exempt from suffering to some degree or other. The outcome of suffering depends on through whose eyes we are viewing pain and suffering. Even people of faith view suffering as entirely negative — a sign of God’s disapproval. So, how should we view suffering? Is all suffering created equal?

For a man to think he’s going to stop the purpose of God just doesn’t work. Can’t be done. God’s purposes will never be frustrated, and his punishment can’t be avoided. Why not be with Him? Why not be on His side? When you learn how to rest all your burdens on the Lord, you will know not to fight or fuss at God when things go wrong or not exactly as you thought or hoped they would.

In life, we are in constant conflict either with ourselves or with others and that is normal this side of heaven, not only because we live in a fallen world, but also because we have a fallen nature. God’s character of justice will always do the right thing. Which is why even in situations that God allows in our lives, that we don’t like, we must always trust him that he is doing the right thing to teach us something of eternal value even if he has to allow temporal discomfort.

It is a human thing to run into conflicts with others to some degree or another. Wherever there are two or more people together there will always be conflicts. There are a variety of survival mechanisms that people develop, and many times people use these same mechanisms with God because it has become a pattern. But we can never pull the wool over God eyes on anything. We should always, at the very least, treat him with the utmost respect even if we disagree with him.

The complete rule of God in all of the universe and in all of creation is more than obvious in the past, present and will continue to be in the future. For centuries men have clenched their fists at God. They have gritted their teeth and attempted to spit at the face of God and continue to do it every single day. History is covered with the wreckage of men and nations that have attempted to fight against God, to no avail. We would do well to learn from their lesson.

Let’s continue our learning journey through this topic to remind ourselves where we fit in God’s plan. As mentioned before, the intentions of these early settlers were mainly religious in nature. The purpose of the Pilgrims being spiritual in nature opened up a whole new chapter in the way colonization of countries was done. It was usually done by conquest, ambition, plunder and glory. But with the Pilgrims, God was clearly stepping in and changing the world scene with something totally different.

The faith of America’s Founders has been a source of controversy since the nation’s inception. Since we know that God is in control of history, and he is involved in its development, this clearly helps us to connect the events that followed as being a God thing in his desire to settle the North American continent guided by his hand. God will use any person or people who choose him as their sovereign ruler.

Where you were born and where you live is no accident. Why do I say this with such assurance? Because you are created in the image and likeness of God. Every person and nation follow a philosophy of life that either makes them better or they are worse for it. What is the most accurate proven philosophy in all of human history? What was America’s philosophy that gave it its greatness?

"Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life" (Proverbs 13:12). Our job is to keep producing that faithful remnant in every generation by striving to learn God’s truth, discern his will and implement it in our lives and pass it on to our children and our children’s children. Good seeds never die!

Hope can only be maintained as we treasure and preserve truth and pass on that torch in the marathon of life to the next generation. Much like a torch or baton is relayed and passed on in a race. We must be encouraged by the hope we see in our generation and in the next. There are vital and indispensable pillars in every society if that society, nation or civilization stands a chance of not only surviving but thriving. Let us briefly review them.

About The Future of America

We want to help restore America's original foundation in biblical Christian principles which made it the most powerful and prosperous nation in the world in a relatively short time but America has not reached it full potential. Ideas have consequences and they are passed on from generation to generation. To eradicate error, the moral and ethical principles of the Bible must be firmly established in the hearts and minds of each individual. If America is going to survive, its citizens must become re-acquainted with its history, heritage and biblical immovable principles and apply them once again to all areas of life. We hope this program will inspire and challenge you so together we can fulfill our responsibility before God and country to make the difference for our generation many generations to come.
