Stamped, Sealed and Delivered: The Holy Spirit Intercedes for Us

A Christmas card was recently returned to me.  I checked its address; perfect.  I checked the name; perfect.  One minor problem, it had no stamp.  Well, I muttered in my heart, it seems like the post office would let just one through.  But it's clear: no stamp, no delivery. The work of the Holy Spirit is more than just a colored square on the corner of our correspondence, but that work in its specifics is like a postal stamp.  Other than calling the Person of the Holy Spirit "It," I think the two things most insulting to His Person are the arguing over the ranking of His Gifts and the ignoring of the Stamp of His Person.

Scripture teaches us we are sealed by the Holy Spirit, kept intact by His Holy Person, and that His Stamp gets our prayer messages where they are going.  He turns our groanings and faltering, stammering prayers into eloquent epistles pleasing to God.  Just this morning I felt the unutterable yearnings of my heart.  I stumbled in my praying, trying to force my way through the halls of Heaven depending on the zip code of emergency, and then immediately doubted that God had heard me.  Would my prayer be returned – unread, unopened, undelivered? No, it was sent, properly addressed and stamped by the Holy Spirit, Who, according to Romans 8:26 sees to it that my prayer is delivered.  Your prayer letter to God, correctly addressed in the Name of Jesus, will get where it's going because of the Stamp of the Holy Spirit.
