There are 1,183,700 violent crimes committed in the public schools in a given year, according to reports from the Department of Education and the Department of Justice. But there are only 1,209,000 violent crimes reported to the police in any given year—in the entire country! So what gives? Many violent crimes happening in schools are not reported to the police, including half of the “serious” violent incidents. Why are there more violent crimes happening in the public schools than on the streets? Are parents aware of the pressure cooker of violence simmering away in public schools in the present day?
