Quivering Daughters

September 20, 2010
Bitter Fruits of Bad Theology With the ongoing breakdown of the family and faith, increasingly horrific reports surface detailing stories of children sexually abused in Christian boarding schools. Some adult children coming out of homeschools also complain of abuse, having been raised in what they call “legalistic” homes. As the evangelical faith wanders theologically and as family relationships suffer badly, these sorts of testimonies will only increase over the next few decades. What is the relationship of rules and relationships? How about faith and works? Heart and hands? Authority and humility? God's sovereignty and human responsibility? Tying in his current blog post on this broadcast, Kevin Swanson points out the wild swings Christians make from heterodoxy to heterodoxy, as the faith disappears generation by generation. The Christian family is on the edge of extinction. The apostasy in the west is finally reaching full force in our country (America). If you want to salvage faith and family, you better start with some half-way decent definitions. What you teach your children about the faith is important. As a pastor and a father, Kevin Swanson presents several important balances that are lost to the average evangelical today.

Federal Debt and Shack ups Barack Obama's administration has racked up more debt in 19 months, than all presidents combined from Washington through Reagan! At the present rate, Obama would add another $8-10 Trillion in eight years. Of course, George W. Bush added about $4 Trillion in his eight years. Kevin Swanson also interacts with the recent World Magazine article on the rising shack up rate, which is now 13X what it was in 1970! With everything going hyperbolic on the exponential curve, how does this bode for the future of a nation?

Entrepreneurship at Seven Education involves stuffing facts into children's heads for 18 years, with very little connection to things like work, marriage, and life. Why not include something useful in your child's education? Scott Price has put together an excellent course that trains children in basic business skills - Kidsco!

Interview: Stephen Arterburn The battle has only heated up! Since the 1960's, an increasingly sexualized world has only become more ubiquitous, more aggressive, and more decadent. A 29-year-old man sits in a hotel room on a business trip with nobody except his computer, a television set with all the selections, and plenty of options in the big city. So what's wrong with this situation? Do we set ourselves up for failure? In this edition of Generations, author of the classic series entitled "Every Man's Battle," Stephen Arterburn provides practical, helpful advice for men engaging the battle.

Interview: Darrow Miller The breakdown of the Christian faith came about by means of a compartmentalization and fragmentation of life. The family was ripped away from our work life. Worship was separated from work. Somehow, we were all forced to take a materialistic way of looking at work. Enter Darrow Miller and his excellent work on "A Biblical Theology of Vocation." Darrow shares an excellent vision applying biblical principles to agriculture, accounting, medical work, engineering, and communication. He points out that all of us are in "Full-time Ministry," so long as we are serving Christ in His kingdom!

The Basis for Unity Conservative, Ann Coulter extends a hand of unity towards homosexuals in the recent "Homocon" conference - not all that surprising with the tremendous growth of homosexuality among Republicans and the children of Republicans/conservatives. This leads to a conversation on the basis of unity. Do we unite with homosexuals in our political organizations and our churches? What about people who disagree on how much water to use in a baptism?

College and Rape The great philosopher of the modern age, Rousseau configured a form of education that would separate the child as much as possible from parents and relatives. He only did so after abandoning his own five children on the steps of an orphanage. Now, his orphanage has grown. Canada is proud of their new all-day kindergarten for 3-year-olds. But even the secular media appears concerned that women have 4X the probability of getting raped during the college years, than at any other time in their lives. So why are we sending our daughters off to college, again? Do our sons and daughters need to be living the 'age of unaccountability?' Kevin Swanson challenges the paradigms and asks the right questions on this edition of Generations.

Wild at Heart or Acting Righteously, Loving Mercy, and Walking Humbly? The television fair for the new season calls for more women action heroes. Why? Recent surveys find that women are sick of wimpy men, and prefer women beating up on the bad guys. With the ongoing disintegration of manliness, Christians have responded with diversionary, confused ideas of biblical manhood. Sensitive New-Age Guys? Wild-Hearted Thrill Seekers? Macho Men? Mr. Moms? Sports Freaks? If there was ever a time to figure out the male identity, it would be now - before our social systems completely unravel.

Scared of Food A recent documentary entitled 'Food Inc.' has been released which seeks to expose the 'corrupt practices' of major food production corporations and to produce paranoia and fear in big city folk who have never considered the fact that for them to be able to eat that bacon double-cheeseburger, a cow did actually have to die and be cut up and pushed through a meat factory. The film is hardly objective with frightening music and gory scenes intended to cause discomfort to the viewer and to instill a romanticism with 18th-century style farming and organic foods. Dave reviews the film on this edition of Generations and provides his perspective on the state of food today discussing both positive and negative aspects of our food supply and what Christians should do with the food they eat.

An Interview with William Federer Barack Obama is America’s first president not to attend the national day of prayer, in contrast to James Madison calling the people to their knees in repentance to God. What has changed? On this program, Dave interviews William Federer, author of Prayers and Presidents, about the national prayers and days of fasting called by the early presidents, and Dave compares that to the faith of our current president.

God’s Law in Culture A town of Hasidic Jews in New York put up a sign asking visitors to dress modestly and speak appropriately. In a similar story in Venice, the mayor puts the kabosh on an immodest billboard only because it did not belong in St. Mark’s Square. Occasionally there are still people who try to follow God’s law at points, but for the wrong reasons. What exactly is the place of God’s law in society? Listen, on this edition of Generations, as Dave interacts with how God’s law and His gospel apply to culture.
