Why would Paul have to write so adamantly about freedom if we all seem so keen on freedom?  You would think that we would know enough to avoid the bondage of slavery once we have known the saving grace of Christ.  Welcome to fallen humanity.  Human nature gravitates toward slavery.  Our sinful nature is drawn to what enslaves us.  We must understand the propensity of our fallen sin-nature to choose against God’s ways in the delusion that it will bring freedom.  Such is the deception that dwells in every human heart. 

Once we are born of the Spirit, we must be tutored by the Spirit.  The Sword of the Spirit will pierce our hearts in a way that will help us understand the difference between choosing our own way, which leads to slavery, and choosing God’s way, which celebrates freedom.
