Not surprising, Galatians has provided the backbone for several great spiritual revivals around the world. Freedom, we learn, is a serious fight. There are only two kinds of people in the world—those who trust Jesus and those who reject Him. Today, in Mark 7, we’ll see examples of both groups of these people. Notice how they treat Jesus and how He treats them in return. He did the Father’s will and died for every individual—even those who rejected Him. This humbling portion of Jesus’ ministry ultimately leads us to the cross.

As a good rabbi will do, Jesus sends out His disciples two by two on their first ministry trip and gives them the power to heal and have authority over demons in His name. This is the peak of Jesus’ ministry in Galilee, culminating in the crowd wanting to make Him king.

Imagine witnessing one of Jesus’ miracles in person. That would bring a whole deeper meaning to the phrase, “It’s a miracle!” wouldn’t it? Today in Mark 5, witness three outstanding miracles of Jesus over the demonic realm, death, and an uncurable disease. These three miracles left some witnesses with no room for objection: Jesus is God.

We all love a good story. Jesus used stories called parables to teach spiritual truth to those who hungered and thirsted after righteousness. While unbelievers just thought He was nothing more than a good storyteller, many lives were changed by the gospel truths found in the parables.

Jesus saw the paralytic’s faith, forgave his sin, then healed his disability. Why did Jesus do it in that order? Perhaps He wanted us to know how to find true healing from life’s hurts, which can be found only through faith in Jesus and acceptance of His unconditional forgiveness. Are you hurting today? Have faith. He sees you and wants you to find healing in Him.

The end of Exodus offers us a beautiful promise to hold onto. God provided His visible presence as a guide for His children—a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night. No matter where you are in your journey, may you always find hope in this simple truth: He is your faithful, loving Guide.

About Dr. J. Vernon McGee

John Vernon McGee was born in Hillsboro, Texas, in 1904. Dr. McGee remarked, "When I was born and the doctor gave me the customary whack, my mother said that I let out a yell that could be heard on all four borders of Texas!" His Creator well knew that he would need a powerful voice to deliver a powerful message.

After completing his education (including a Th.M. and Th.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary), he and his wife came west, settling in Pasadena, California. Dr. McGee's greatest pastorate was at the historic Church of the Open Door in downtown Los Angeles, where he served from 1949 to 1970.

He began teaching Thru the Bible in 1967. After retiring from the pastorate, he set up radio headquarters in Pasadena, and the radio ministry expanded rapidly. Listeners never seem to tire of Dr. J. Vernon McGee's unique brand of rubber-meets-the-road teaching, or his passion for teaching the whole Word of God.

On the morning of December 1, 1988, Dr. McGee fell asleep in his chair and quietly passed into the presence of his Savior.
