What does it take to grow in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ? Jesus tells us the Holy Spirit will guide us into truth as we read God’s Word, and He will complete the teaching that Jesus began. Take note: The Holy Spirit will also always direct our attention back to Jesus.

Get ready to fight the good fight against legalism in Galatians. When this letter was written, it defended the gospel of Christ from people who wanted to reduce it to rules. Not surprising, Galatians has provided the backbone for several great spiritual revivals around the world. Freedom, we learn, is a serious fight. Allow grace to revolutionize your own life through these seven lessons from Dr. J. Vernon McGee.

“When I call Jesus my friend, I bring Him down to my level.  When Jesus calls me His friend, He’s raising me up to His. This kind of special friendship requires my obedience.” Dr. J. Vernon McGee teaches from John 15 what it means when Jesus calls us “friend.”

To comfort His disciples after telling them He was going to die, Jesus told them of a beautiful plan He had for their future. A place with Him. In fact, He was going ahead to get it ready and then told them how to get there. Be encouraged by this hope of “a place He’s preparing for us” and the promise that Jesus will come again to get us.

Two significant disciples suffer the worst evening of their lives as we take a close look at Judas’ betrayal and Peter’s denial. Judas had no faith and was susceptible to Satan’s schemes. Peter, who sincerely loved the Lord, was overconfident and operating out of the flesh.

How do you accept that someone you love is going to die? When others were enjoying Jesus’ fellowship, Mary accepted the difficult truth that Jesus had come to Jerusalem to die. In an extravagant expression of worship, she anoints Him with oil. Sit with those who love Jesus most in some of His last days of ministry.

About Dr. J. Vernon McGee

John Vernon McGee was born in Hillsboro, Texas, in 1904. Dr. McGee remarked, "When I was born and the doctor gave me the customary whack, my mother said that I let out a yell that could be heard on all four borders of Texas!" His Creator well knew that he would need a powerful voice to deliver a powerful message.

After completing his education (including a Th.M. and Th.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary), he and his wife came west, settling in Pasadena, California. Dr. McGee's greatest pastorate was at the historic Church of the Open Door in downtown Los Angeles, where he served from 1949 to 1970.

He began teaching Thru the Bible in 1967. After retiring from the pastorate, he set up radio headquarters in Pasadena, and the radio ministry expanded rapidly. Listeners never seem to tire of Dr. J. Vernon McGee's unique brand of rubber-meets-the-road teaching, or his passion for teaching the whole Word of God.

On the morning of December 1, 1988, Dr. McGee fell asleep in his chair and quietly passed into the presence of his Savior.
