Get ready to fight the good fight against legalism in Galatians. When this letter was written, it defended the gospel of Christ from people who wanted to reduce it to rules. Not surprising, Galatians has provided the backbone for several great spiritual revivals around the world. Freedom, we learn, is a serious fight. Allow grace to revolutionize your own life through these seven lessons from Dr. J. Vernon McGee.

What is the meaning of the word “providence”? Is it similar to fate? Chance? What about destiny? That’s what we’ll discover in this study of the beloved Old Testament book of Esther.

No one denies that we live in a wicked world. Perhaps even more than in first-century Corinth. So how can God’s people live above that wickedness? Only by the power of the Spirit. So keep the faith and don’t allow your sins to pile up. Confess them and repent of them quickly and regularly. We are in Christ. We have His power to live a life that pleases Him.

Stories of people who have “gone to heaven” and returned always stir our curiosity. It’s hard to know what to believe. But in 2 Corinthians 12, the apostle Paul described what he saw when he was taken to the “third heaven” where sits the throne of God. He talks about this experience reluctantly—and with words like “inexpressible.” Find out what he saw and how that changes life here today.

If you’ve ever had to defend yourself, you know how uncomfortable it is. The apostle Paul faced bitter accusations from false teachers in Corinth and had to defend his right to speak with God’s authority. Discover Paul’s backstory in this chapter devoted to Paul’s life. In the end, what mattered most was a faith relationship with Jesus.

Don’t let looks fool you. Sometimes the most beautiful person you know doesn’t look that attractive on the outside—but look at their heart. That’s the lesson we learn about Jesus and about the apostle Paul—in contrast to the slick false teachers of the day. Don’t measure yourself by other men and women, look to Jesus.

Cheerfully. That’s how the Lord wants us to live. And how He wants us to give. Our whole relationship with the Lord is to be a love relationship. Learn how to be glad in Him in this classic passage about Christian giving and authentic living.

Want a model for giving to God’s work? Look at Jesus. He became poor so we might be made rich. In the church, learn from this classic passage on giving the practices and principles of how we can support God’s work out of what He provides for us.

So should we give a 10% tithe to the church? Good question. God gives us no rules for giving today. Instead, God wants you to give cheerfully, out of your love for Him. Follow the example set by the churches of Macedonia who, though poor, were spiritually rich when they gave beyond their ability and God’s work went forward.

All we need, we find in God. He wants to be in the details of our lives, being enough for us in every situation. This sobering study of 2 Corinthians 7 highlights many ungodly things that too easily seep into our lives because of pride. Sometimes they sneak in because we are not believing God. Ask God to show you what’s keeping you from Him as you listen.

Why does the Bible say believers should not be “yoked together” with unbelievers? Why is it sinful to partner in marriage or in business with those who reject the Lord? Explore what it means to “be separate” in this study of 2 Corinthians 6 and why it pleases the Lord.

About Dr. J. Vernon McGee

John Vernon McGee was born in Hillsboro, Texas, in 1904. Dr. McGee remarked, "When I was born and the doctor gave me the customary whack, my mother said that I let out a yell that could be heard on all four borders of Texas!" His Creator well knew that he would need a powerful voice to deliver a powerful message.

After completing his education (including a Th.M. and Th.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary), he and his wife came west, settling in Pasadena, California. Dr. McGee's greatest pastorate was at the historic Church of the Open Door in downtown Los Angeles, where he served from 1949 to 1970.

He began teaching Thru the Bible in 1967. After retiring from the pastorate, he set up radio headquarters in Pasadena, and the radio ministry expanded rapidly. Listeners never seem to tire of Dr. J. Vernon McGee's unique brand of rubber-meets-the-road teaching, or his passion for teaching the whole Word of God.

On the morning of December 1, 1988, Dr. McGee fell asleep in his chair and quietly passed into the presence of his Savior.
