Get ready to fight the good fight against legalism in Galatians. When this letter was written, it defended the gospel of Christ from people who wanted to reduce it to rules. Not surprising, Galatians has provided the backbone for several great spiritual revivals around the world. Freedom, we learn, is a serious fight. Allow grace to revolutionize your own life through these seven lessons from Dr. J. Vernon McGee.

So should we give a 10% tithe to the church? Good question. God gives us no rules for giving today. Instead, God wants you to give cheerfully, out of your love for Him. Follow the example set by the churches of Macedonia who, though poor, were spiritually rich when they gave beyond their ability and God’s work went forward.

All we need, we find in God. He wants to be in the details of our lives, being enough for us in every situation. This sobering study of 2 Corinthians 7 highlights many ungodly things that too easily seep into our lives because of pride. Sometimes they sneak in because we are not believing God. Ask God to show you what’s keeping you from Him as you listen.

Why does the Bible say believers should not be “yoked together” with unbelievers? Why is it sinful to partner in marriage or in business with those who reject the Lord? Explore what it means to “be separate” in this study of 2 Corinthians 6 and why it pleases the Lord.

You have a choice today. You can walk in obedience to the Word and to the Spirit, or you can walk according to the flesh. Ask God to show you which road you’re on today. It means the difference between peace and anxiety, comfort and chaos, confidence and doubt. Find out how to know for sure in our study of 2 Corinthians 6.

Here’s some truth you need to take to heart: In Christ, you are a new creation; all things have become new. You have been crucified with Christ, your old nature is dead. You live by faith and not by sight. God has done it; it’s up to you to believe it.

The biggest lie circulating today is that we will not be judged for sin. Somebody has to pay. As followers of Christ, we trust that the Lord Jesus already paid the penalty for our sins. So with the fear of the Lord, we tell others how they too can avoid God’s judgment. Don’t refuse God’s love! Turn instead to Jesus and, by faith, receive His gift of forgiveness.

Has your body started to fall apart yet? It will. No wonder the apostle Paul called the human body a collapsing tent. But the house God is building for us in heaven is far better than the one we have today. Learn more about the old and new that is ahead in heaven and at the judgment seat of Christ. It’ll make you want to love Jesus more.

Likely you know your strengths and weaknesses. We all have them. Ever wonder how God could use you for good in His ministry? We study today about this great treasure of the Spirit of God and His Word that we have in “earthen vessels”—our frail human natures, subject to weakness and sin. But this means the power working through us is God!

When you list God’s character traits, don’t forget “mercy.” God is rich in mercy. In other religions, you must do, do, do to satisfy or appease some god. Instead of requiring a long list to please God, Christianity says, “Done.” What God in Christ did for us is complete. We are “in Christ,” meaning we are now complete in Him. What an encouraging passage to study!

God’s Old Testament Law was good for the season, but the “new covenant” is so much more glorious. The Spirit makes it permanent in our hearts. As we abide in Christ, walking in the power of God’s Spirit, He transforms us into the image of our blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

About Dr. J. Vernon McGee

John Vernon McGee was born in Hillsboro, Texas, in 1904. Dr. McGee remarked, "When I was born and the doctor gave me the customary whack, my mother said that I let out a yell that could be heard on all four borders of Texas!" His Creator well knew that he would need a powerful voice to deliver a powerful message.

After completing his education (including a Th.M. and Th.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary), he and his wife came west, settling in Pasadena, California. Dr. McGee's greatest pastorate was at the historic Church of the Open Door in downtown Los Angeles, where he served from 1949 to 1970.

He began teaching Thru the Bible in 1967. After retiring from the pastorate, he set up radio headquarters in Pasadena, and the radio ministry expanded rapidly. Listeners never seem to tire of Dr. J. Vernon McGee's unique brand of rubber-meets-the-road teaching, or his passion for teaching the whole Word of God.

On the morning of December 1, 1988, Dr. McGee fell asleep in his chair and quietly passed into the presence of his Savior.
