His hand is on us

October 14, 2026

John makes it clear that it was during the Passover that’s when our Lord took the sop and gave it to Judas and said, “What thou doest, do quickly,” and he left. I think that you need to understand that to understand what took place here properly. And notice now: “And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed. And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them that it was that should do this thing.” You know, every one of those men believed he could do it. And, if you’re honest, you know you could betray Him, don’t you? You know, friends, if He didn’t keep His hand on me, in the next five minutes I could deny Him. Thank God He won’t take His hand off, though. I rejoice in that. What a wonderful thing that we have here.

Guest (Male): Ready for some good news? Here's through the Bible.

Dr. J. Vernon McGee: John makes it clear that it was during the Passover, that's when our Lord took the sop, gave it to Judas, says what you do, do quickly, and he left. I think that you need to understand that, to understand what took place here properly. And notice now, and truly the son of man goeth as it was determined, but woe unto that man by whom he's betrayed. And they began to inquire among themselves which of them that it was that should do this thing. You know, every one of those men believed he could do it. And if you are honest, you know you could betray him, don't you?

You know, friends, if he didn't keep his hand on me in the next 5 minutes, I could deny him. Thank God he won't take his hand off, though. I rejoice in that. What a wonderful thing that we have here.

About Dr. J. Vernon McGee

John Vernon McGeewas born in Hillsboro, Texas, in 1904. Dr. McGee remarked, "When I was born and the doctor gave me the customary whack, my mother said that I let out a yell that could be heard on all four borders of Texas!" His Creator well knew that he would need a powerful voice to deliver a powerful message.

After completing his education (including a Th.M. and Th.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary), he and his wife came west, settling in Pasadena, California. Dr. McGee's greatest pastorate was at the historic Church of the Open Door in downtown Los Angeles, where he served from 1949 to 1970.

He began teaching Thru the Bible in 1967. After retiring from the pastorate, he set up radio headquarters in Pasadena, and the radio ministry expanded rapidly. Listeners never seem to tire of Dr. J. Vernon McGee's unique brand of rubber-meets-the-road teaching, or his passion for teaching the whole Word of God.

On the morning of December 1, 1988, Dr. McGee fell asleep in his chair and quietly passed into the presence of his Savior.
