The Grace and Peace of God

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:2

Paul always made it a point to give this greeting to believers. Grace is the Greek salutation. The word grace in the Greek language is charis meaning “grace, as a gift or blessing brought to man by Jesus Christ.” It is God’s unmerited favor toward us. The word peace in the Hebrew language is eirene. It means “one peace, quietness or rest.” In Israel, shalom, meaning “Peace is unto you,” is often used as a salutation or farewell when parting.

Paul first mentioned the grace of God before the peace of God. We need God’s grace and peace every day. A person cannot experience God’s peace without first experiencing the grace of God in their lives. God wants people to know His grace and His peace. There is no peace for the wicked (Isaiah 48:22). So many people do not have these twin blessings of grace and peace bestowed upon them. They remain at enmity with God. Jesus said to His disciples:

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).

Do you have His peace? It is a peace that passes all human understanding (Philippians 4:6-7). Imagine, it is only because of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross that we are able to have a personal relationship with a holy God. Through God’s grace, we can receive the free gift of salvation. Why not repent of your sin and ask Jesus for forgiveness so you can have God’s grace and peace extended to you today?

If you want your neighbour to know what Christ will do for him, let your neighbour see what Christ has done for you.
