Grace and Peace

Grace to you and peace be multiplied.
1 Peter 1:2

In Peter’s greeting to the dispersed believers, he wrote of grace and peace being multiplied in their lives––a continued outpouring of God’s favor and tranquility. Grace and peace are the Siamese twins of the New Testament. Listen, you cannot have peace with God unless you first experience the grace of God.

The word grace means “unmerited favor.” God’s grace is freely given to us. Scripturally, grace acts as a bridge between sinful man and God.  Grace has been extended to us as a gift on the premise of our acceptance by faith in the Son of God who gave His life for us:

Ephesians 2:8-9: For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

God’s grace includes forgiveness, spiritual growth, and hope in the promise of eternal life:

Titus 2:11-14: For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.

The word “shalom,” means peace and it is a well-known greeting in the Hebrew language; but in the context of what Peter was relaying to believers, God’s peace is the tranquil state of the soul, assured of its salvation. It is an inward peace through Christ, and it is void of the fear of God’s judgment. It also brings with it a blissful contentment of one’s earthly lot in life.

I pray that God’s grace and peace be continually multiplied in your life, because the moment you are saved, His grace and peace overflow into your life every single day––beautiful.
