How does a church develop a music form for people who come out of a fragmented culture—when the youth are attached to one form and the older generation hold onto another? What if all roots in historical forms have been severed? Is there a secular-sacred distinction to be drawn into worship? Do we use forms that are wholly unfamiliar to the people who come into worship? These happen to be some of the more controversial issues being discussed within the church today. Here Kevin Swanson interviews Gregory Wilbur on his compositions for worship music contained in the Ligonier compilation “My Cry Ascends.”
