Socialist Healthcare -- Fait Accompli!

March 24, 2010
Back in the U.S.S.A.
VP Joe Biden uses a sharp obscenity at the signing of the big health care bill, to describe what happened to America over the weekend, and Kevin Swanson struggles to find a proper synonym to explain what he meant. After 100 years of hard work, the socialists have finally achieved the pro-abortion, socialist utopia they were seeking.
Kevin Swanson traces the hard-won path towards total socialism in America since William Jennings Bryan and other progressives fought for it at the turn of the 20th century. But for those interested in liberty from big government, adoptions rather than abortion, family-driven education, privatized and relational charity, you may appreciate the island of freedom being build right now! The rest of us are abandoning socialism, even as the world around us is turning towards it.

From Bach to Rape Rap - a 300 Year Journey Suppose a group of 100,000 people were taught a certain worldview that was distinctively different than the humanist worldview taught by the enlightenment of the 1700s. What would happen to music? Will Christians always have to play lapdog to the humanists in the area of music? Or will they emerge with their own distinctive worldview and cultural incarnations? Kevin Swanson interviews musician Martin Selbrede on the powerful influence of worldviews in music.

Why Education is Failing Here It's hard to admit that other countries may be better than ours – but it does appear that our prosperity has yielded a very expensive socialism, a breakdown of the family, and a more severe breakdown of character in this nation. Kevin Swanson addresses the important issue of educating the next generation on this edition of Generations. The failure of education is the failure to cultivate parent-child relationships, character, life-integration, and the principle of individuality. How is it that the institutional schools focus on everything but the most important factors that would produce a quality education for our children?

Optimism and Pessimism Why is eschatology such a big ol' rat nest of an issue? As cultural commentators, not exactly impressed with where western civilization is going, the Generations team is accused of being way too pessimistic, and way too optimistic. So which is is it? Kevin Swanson wades into the sticky waters of eschatology on this one, to sort out the obvious from that which is not so obvious. He warns about Newspaper Eisegesis and Western Myopia, two afflictions that have beset western Christianity.

Glenn Beck vs. Jim Wallis Socialism's biggest day in America approaches with the House vote on the big $900 billion healthcare bill! A lot of leadership, a lot of lives committed to the cause, a lot of political reputations are staked on this bill. "Don't let us down now, Nancy Pelosi!" Believe it or not, some of the debate boils down to the kind of moral, ethical system that people want to impose upon Jesus Christ – which means two things. Jesus Christ still has an impact on history, and it seems beneficial to have Jesus on your side when it comes to socialist programs in America. Unfortunately, most don't really care what Jesus REALLY said about graduated taxation and the redistribution of the wealth, in His Word. Nevertheless, Kevin Swanson doesn't mind quoting Christ, verbatim, in this segment of Generations.

Power Corrupts Scandals. Scandals. Scandals. Hardly a day goes by that we don’t hear about more scandals among our leaders. Kevin Swanson suggests it may have something to do with Romans 3:8ff. Then he links the centralization of power in church and state to the rise of scandal and the breakdown of morality. Here is a program that will help you and your family interpret what is reported on in the news.

Glenn Beck: "Get Your Kids Out!" There are far more Americans who believe public schools are the worst form of education than believe home education is the worst form. Confidence in the schools is falling fast, and so is the funding. Half of Kansas City schools will be shuttered in the next few weeks. And now, Fox News commentator, Glenn Beck is calling for parents to "Get your kids out!" But what about the goal of all educational endeavors – college? California public universities have increased fees by 3X since 1999, and now graduates are not getting jobs, per a recent WSJ article! If there was ever a time to think out of the box, THIS IS IT. Instead of graduating with $40,000 in college debts, what about studying 120 books and getting mentored into a line of business? Killer ideas on this edition of Generations!

Achieving Critical Mass Among a Committed Minority The problem with freedom is that you have to expend effort to maintain it. In the back and forth, political seesaw that is characteristic of democratic systems, occasionally those who appreciate freedom may take advantage of some of the momentum against burgeoning government. Kevin Swanson interviews Rein Gilstrom on the Precinct Solution. Could a couple hundred thousand people make the difference, if they were a little motivated to get involved in preserving American freedoms? Could we ever achieve a critical mass among a dedicated minority of those who value freedom enough to do something about it?

Textbook Wars In the 1920s, Christians raised a stink about the foul doctrines of Eugenics and white race supremacy contained in public school high school textbooks, and the ACLU struck back hard at the Scopes trial. Now eighty years later, Christians are still not all that happy with the godless science textbooks, featuring pure materialism found in most public schools. Over the weekend, Associated Press takes on a small Christian publishing ministry called Apologia for their worldview perspective on biblical creationism in a short news piece. Here Kevin Swanson interviews Apologia President, Davis Carmen on what it takes to provide top quality, academically-superior science textbooks, while retaining a solid worldview footing.

The Use of Psychotropic Drugs on Children The use of Psychotropic drugs on boys has increased by a factor of 20X since 1990. The reasons are obvious. Society is in chaos and the family has almost completely disintegrated. We understand why THEY have to use psychotropic drugs. But what about US? This question is a real and difficult question for some families. Without trivializing the issue, Kevin Swanson takes on this controversial issue with an important question – Which would you RATHER do, if you had a choice? Disciple them or drug them?

Honor to Whom Honor is Due A Larimer County sheriff in Colorado commits to defending gun-toting college kids on the CSU campus, and we say, “Good for him!” We also answer the question, “What would Jesus carry.” But what about the census? What's with the advancing tyranny and the ever-advancing imposition on the privacy of American families? Kevin Swanson gives a biblical view of the census here, discusses the legal issues, and suggests a Christian approach to handling tyranny.
