Ministering Spirits

But to which of the angels has He ever said: “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool”? Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?
Hebrews 1:13-14

Paul used common sense and logic when explaining the Scriptures. He quoted from Psalm 110:1: The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” Once again, he used Scripture to prove the deity of Jesus Christ. He was deserving of exaltation––to sit at God’s right hand.

God has never given any angel the same exalted position in heaven as Jesus Christ. Angels are not to be worshiped. Who is deserving of our worship? Christ. He is deserving of our worship. An angel was sent by God to give the Apostle John a revelation of the future. Overcome by the angel’s presence, he fell at his feet to worship him. Consider the angel’s correction and who John was directed to worship instead:

Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God” (Revelation 22:8-9).

We are to worship God. As Jesus is God, even all the angels are to worship Him: “Let all the angels of God worship Him” (Hebrews 1:6).

The Bible gives us a correct view of angels. They are “ministering spirits” assigned to help Christians––those who will inherit salvation. Do you realize the important implications of this verse? We have unseen angels who are watching over us. They protect and deliver us from evil. Think about the story of Lot, and how he and some of His family were delivered from Sodom and Gomorrah by an angel (Genesis 19).

Those who worship idols, which many people still do in India and in Asia, are also corrected by Psalm 97:7: Let all be put to shame who serve carved images, who boast of idols. Worship Him, [Jesus] all you gods.

Yes, you can worship without Jesus, but you’re not worshipping the God of the Bible.
