The Great Plan of God

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16

Have you heard about the great plan of God? Jesus was sent on a mission by the Father. He was to be our Redeemer, the Savior of the world. He came to save those who were lost––spiritually destitute––on their way to eternal destruction. Jesus was born of a woman––a virgin. It has been said He was born in a stable, but in actuality, it was a small cave in Bethlehem.

Jesus started His short ministry at the age of 30, remaining mostly around the area of Galilee. John the Baptist prepared the way and preached a fiery message of repentance. He pointed people to Jesus Christ. In humility, John said: He must increase, but I must decrease (John 3:30).

The great plan of God unfolded: Jesus came, died, and rose again on the third day. For forty days, known as the Post Resurrection, Jesus walked and ate with His followers. He insisted they remain in Jerusalem to wait for the Holy Spirit. The birth of the Church could not happen without the disciples receiving the power of the Holy Spirit.

Then Jesus went to the Mount of Olives with the disciples, and He Ascended. The angels told them He would come again. In God’s great plan, Jesus will come again! There were 120 disciples who were obedient. They went to Jerusalem and gathered in an upper room to pray and wait. They did not lean on their own understanding; they were in tune with God’s great plan.

Learn to wait on the Lord, knowing that God’s ways are not our ways:

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9).

Sometimes you may try to figure out the great plan God has for your own life. Do not set a plan for your life. Go in the direction God has for you.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
