A House for God

For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house.
Hebrews 3:3

Jesus is counted more worthy of glory than even the great prophet Moses. In Deuteronomy 18:15, Moses himself spoke of Jesus’ greatness: “The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear...”  We need to hear the words of Jesus!

What is meant by “He who built the house”? This may seem an unfamiliar term. In England, the genealogy of kings is described as a house. The House of Windsor refers to the current reigning royal family. The dynasty is called the House of Windsor after the Windsor Castle estate.

Jesus Christ is accredited for building the house of Israel. They are His people. The royal dynasty that arose from Israel’s lineage is the house of David (2 Samuel 7:26). A shepherd boy became King of Israel! Who will eventually sit on David’s throne? Jesus, who came through David’s earthly genealogy, as stated in the book of Matthew: The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham (Matthew 1:1).

As believers in Christ, to whose house do we belong?

1 Peter 2:5: ...you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:9-10: But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

We are the Church––God's household. Our bodies have become the temple of the living God (2 Corinthians 6:16). The Holy Spirit dwells within us. We belong to the family of God.

We are the living stones of His holy temple that are united to Him and to each other.
