Asking for the Holy Spirit

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
Luke 11:13

In Luke 11:13, Jesus spoke of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God is a gift given to believers when they exercise their faith and ask. God promised the Holy Spirit would be given to those who ask (Luke 11:9-13). Be persistent in your asking. God loves persistent people! Also, know that the gifts of the Holy Spirit have not ceased; they are for today (1 Corinthians 12). All the gifts of the Holy Spirit, given to the believer as God wills, continue onward until the return of Jesus Christ!

Realize, God desires to fill His people with His Holy Spirit, but there are some conditions for obtaining the Spirit’s empowerment. There has to be repentance from sin. Peter said to his audience on the Day of Pentecost: “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). This promise of the Holy Spirit is not only for us, but for our children as well: “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call” (Acts 2:39).

Another condition when asking to be empowered with God’s Holy Spirit is to have a child-like faith. How does a person receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit? By faith! You believe! It is written in Hebrews 11:6: ...without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. As you seek the Lord, asking for the infilling of His Holy Spirit, there has to be a deep conviction in your heart that you desperately need His power for your life.

Ask God and keep asking Him for the power of His Holy Spirit! He is the great Baptizer of our faith.

He [the Holy Spirit] has been sent by the Father at the request of Jesus to come alongside of you to help you.
