An Excellent Name

...having become so much better than the angels, as He [Jesus] has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
Hebrews 1:4

Notice what the writer of Hebrews has proclaimed about the deity of Jesus Christ––He is so much better than the angelsThe word better means “more excellent.” There are hosts of angels in heaven, but Jesus is superior––having a more excellent name than they.

Jesus, the Son of God who died on the Cross for sin, by inheritance, has obtained a more excellent name than the angels. In the book of Philippians, the magnificence and authority of His name are revealed:

...God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11).

Jesus won our salvation, and it is only through His name that a person can be saved: For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Again, in 1 John 5:13, the belief in Jesus’ name gives surety of our salvation:

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

Are you trusting in another name for your salvation? Then your salvation is not secure. If you want to be assured of your salvation, you have to trust in Jesus’ name. You have to accept Jesus as your Savior. No one else went to the Cross to die for your sins. Only Jesus did that: For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all... (1 Timothy 2:5-6).

I pray, that if you have not trusted in Jesus Christ to save you from your sins, He would become your personal Lord, Savior and Redeemer. Then you too can have complete assurance of your salvation.

Jesus Christ is both the only price and sacrifice by which eternal redemption is obtained for believers.
