God’s Faithfulness to Us

... Christ Jesus, who was faithful to Him [God] who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.
Hebrews 3:1-2

Jesus was so faithful to the plan of God to save us. The Father had appointed His Son to the task of our salvation––to be our Deliverer. Paul the Apostle compared the faithfulness of Christ to Moses’ faithfulness––as he is a type of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. Moses was faithful to the call God of God to deliver His people from slavery in Egypt––a type of the world (Exodus 3). Imagine, Moses was faithful to oversee 3.5 million people as they journeyed through the wilderness to the Promised Land. It is a picture of the faithfulness of Jesus Christ toward us.

As a baby, Moses was rescued from the River Nile by an Egyptian princess. He grew up in Egypt, and, for the first 40 years of his life, he became a somebody, but when he killed an Egyptian, he fled to Midian, and spent the next 40 years as a nobody––a humble shepherd (Exodus 2:11-15). As a man who had learned humility, God could use his life to shepherd His people for the next 40 years of his life.

When Moses was 80 years old, God appeared to him in a burning bush. Moses stood in awe, seeing a burning bush that was not actually burning! The Lord spoke to him, commanding him to take off his sandals; as he was standing on holy ground. Moses was commissioned by God to go and speak to the children of Israel, saying, “ ‘I Am has sent me to you’ ” (Exodus 3:14). After ten miraculous plagues, Pharaoh let the people of Israel go, but then he pursued them to the Red Sea. God used Moses to deliver His people. God opened the Red Sea and the people walked through on dry ground. When the army of Egyptians followed them, God closed the sea upon them, and they all drowned.

Moses was an amazing servant of God, but the Lord never called him His son. God called Moses, “My servant” (Joshua 1:2), but God called Jesus His Son: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). Jesus is greater in power than Moses––a faithful Servant to God who was appointed to come and deliver us from sin and death.

Come, thou long expected Jesus, born to set thy people free; from our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in thee.
