Be Filled With the Holy Spirit

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:8

I have spoken to you before on the necessity of the Holy Spirit’s power to be an effective witness to a spiritually lost world. You need to be empowered to fulfill Christ’s commission and to complete your God-given tasks.

When you are filled with the Spirit’s power, you can engage in spiritual warfare using the spiritual weapons available (Ephesians 6:10-18). Prayer is one of the weapons used against the enemy: ...praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— (Ephesians 6:18). How are we to pray? We pray with child-like faith. God will replace worries and anxieties with His peace. The heavy loads carried will be lifted. When we have no words to say, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us (Romans 8:26-27).

The infilling of the Holy Spirit’s power will help you to overcome temptation. When the enemy comes, if you are not filled with the Spirit’s power, you will be defeated. You will be a weakling! Every single day you have to be filled with the Holy Spirit! The moment you get up in the morning, before you get off the bed, pray, “God fill me with your Spirit.”

Ask God to empower you to overflowing when you go to work and drive the busy freeways. Seriously, if I am not filled with His power, I will drive the freeways in anger––in the flesh. Galatians 5:16 tells us: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. God wants to fill Christians with the Holy Spirit to overflowing! Imagine the overflowing power of Niagara Falls. Believers in Christ can be empowered and overflowing with God’s Spirit (John 7:37- 38).

The first work of the Spirit is to make a man look upon sin as an enemy and to deal with sin as an enemy, to hate it as an enemy, to loathe it as an enemy and to arm against it as an enemy.
