Are You Amazed, or Will You Mock?
So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?” Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.”
Acts 2:12
Many Jews who had gathered to Jerusalem for the Feast of Pentecost found themselves amazed and perplexed. Bewildered, they tried to understand what they were hearing. Galileans spoke in different dialects the wonderful works of God. Something strange had happened, and they asked among each other, “What in the world is going on?”
It was a miraculous scene, but other Jews who heard Jesus’ followers speak in different languages chose instead to mock them. They made fun, believing they had drunk too much wine. These disciples of Christ were not drunk; they were filled with God’s Spirit!
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a definite experience subsequent to salvation. The third person of the Godhead has come to dwell in a believer’s life. He anoints and energizes them to serve God.
God anoints you with His Spirit for a special service in the body of Christ. You need the power of the Holy Spirit to witness, to pray, to preach, to evangelize, or to play your guitar and sing. Have you experienced the power of the Holy Spirit working in and through your life? As you step out by faith to witness, without struggle the words will just flow from your mouth as Scriptures pop into your head.
God sends people to us; they cross our paths so we can witness to them. When they see God’s anointing on your life, they will ask how they can receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Understand, you did not bring them to Christ. It was the work of the Holy Spirit. He is the One who convicts them. Remember, the greatest witness to nonbelievers is the way you live your life for Jesus Christ before people in the world.
The Christian is the visual aid which God brings on to the stage when he begins to speak at an unconverted person.
